Im looking to put a 3.4 Charged v-6 into my grand am, possibly even a 3.8 charged if it will fit, anyone have any idea of the clearence invovled or someone that may have done something like this? Thanks Alot,

That was very helpful, with the looks of your grand am i'd of expected a little less.

Way to start off on the right foot.

Anyways, thread moved to the proper section.

In regards to your question, what engine do you currently have, and how much time/effort/money are you willing to spend to accomplish this. No engine swap is a straightforward task.

There is no factory 'charged' 3400, although RSM makes an aftermarket supercharger kit for it.

The 3800 is a completely different engine, based on a 90-degree block (The 3400 is a 60-degree). The 3800 is much larger and much heavier, although a stronger engine. As well, Suerchargers are factory equpment on many 3800s out of Bonnevilles and Grand Prixs.

Keep in mind as well that you'll have to do suspension work on the front of the car to compensate for the much heavier engine, or you'll have one poor handling car on your hands.

Good luck!

Probably the easiest swap for you would be a Quad4 since they were offered for your year and they perform well, but if you're set on a 6 banger, I dunno...

I have to agree, a Quad4 H.O. would make a good swap with less effort. It'd out-perform a non-booseted 3400 too.
