tido_29
07-10-2003, 07:26 AM
yeah the insurance is going to look at it today (or soon) and see the damages. I just hope they dont classify it as totalled. But if they dont, then it will be fixed but it wont be the same again.

lets say it gets fixed (frame). When people say its not the same again, do they mean it because of the engine and trans?

so if i put in a new engine and trans, will it be almost as good as new?

Fausto

I heard the same thing...... once anything major under the hood gets damaged from an accident, the car won't run the same supposedly...... I dunno.....

If they decide to write it off however, will they cover the mods? and did you have to report your mods & body kit to them Before your accident?... i'm curious to konw if everytime we do something we're supposed to tell insurance BEFORE you get in an accident cuz that determines your price, AND whether or not they will cover you for that mod?

Be careful to notify them of ALL your mods just in case..... I know someone who's GA was hit, and the insurance tried to scam him by estimating repairs using Stock parts, stock exhaust, everything...... So get all your receipts and keep a careful eye on that so they don't F you.

tido_29
07-10-2003, 07:57 AM
yeah thats is what i am going to find out. The people fixing my car say that they should cover it since it was a PERMANENT part of the car. But i doubt it, i think the only way they cover those parts is if they are reported to the insurance. so if they are not, i am going back to stock and fixing my AED stuff little by little.

Cmnky16
07-10-2003, 08:16 AM
that is hard to believe that is fixable. There isn't any frame damage? The motor is fine?

PurpleGA99
07-10-2003, 09:22 AM
first off, im really sorry to see this. it hurts when you see such a nice car mesed up. im glad youre ok tho.

secondly, how fast were you going down that residential street? you needed to be goin pretty fast. damn, i need to slow down i guess.

thirdly, when they say it never rides the same again, they mean the alignment will never be perfect, it sometimes isnt as fast, and you never feel it to be stable. on the flip side, my girlfriend was in a horrible accident in her grand am, and it was fixed (frame was realigned) and it runs as good if not better than my untouched grand am. so it can be done and work great.

good luck to you.

07-10-2003, 12:32 PM
well the update..

I will be getting a call from the insurance to get my statement.
then they will (or have) gone to see the car. so i am going to wait and see what they say on that.

2 situations

1) they say its not totalled and fix it

2) they say its totalled and i buy it back and fix it myself.

Toutsuu
07-10-2003, 12:48 PM
Glad to hear your ok, or something... if they totall it you should base your decision on how much they give you. It might cost you a lot more in repairs than the car will be worth after it is fixed. That is usually the case when a car is totalled.

I don't know what your insurance covers, but Progressive for example will automatically cover up to 1000 dollars in modifications unless you specifically ask for them to cover more (up to 5000) and pay extra on your insurance.

I figure if i'm hit in the back, my spoiler and exhaust will be covered, if in the front the hood will be :)

Also, if they totall the car you can strip all your mods off and put them on a new one!

UPDATE!!!!

found out this saturday that the stupid insurance will NOT replace my AED front, AED side, or SD hood. :2up: I have reciepts but they dont care. I am just going to put my car back to the GT style and wait like 4 months before i get anything else.

redfox
07-14-2003, 09:36 AM
just get the shop to order the aed front and pay the difference. The stock front new is like 500 anyways so you should have no problem getting it paid for. They are paying for them to replace "stock" parts. Well the total of stock parts should just about pay for your aed replacements

tido_29
07-14-2003, 09:40 AM
the insurance is giving me 270 for the hood (well to replace it) and 280 for the front bumper. So I am getting about 550 for the hood and front bumper. I dont have the cash to pay the difference and then the time it would take to get here and intall it. :(

redfox
07-14-2003, 09:42 AM
what insurance do you have? 280 for the front. Its hard to find one used for that price.

Jibo
07-14-2003, 09:45 AM
Tido is the insurance company the one doing the looking for these parts? I would seriously tell them "I will go myself to three different places and find out what the cost of these parts is, then you can take the midrange price and pay that" tahts what they should be doing at least IMHO

tido_29
07-14-2003, 09:48 AM
i belive we have nationwide. i am actually getting the 550 back in cash since i let them use my stock bumper and stock hood. I will use that to pay the Credit card on the AED kit. then i will order the front again. maybe the whole kit since the sides were a bit damaged, and the rear bumper had a crack on it.

Sorry to here the insurance problems.... That is CRAP they are not taking a value of the AED FX (and only the stock). I can understand not giving you full price, but if you have receipts, you should be permitted to use that to base the value. Those were parts LOST with the car!!!

I had to b!tch with Progressive Insurance (they are A-holes and I will be leaving them soon) after a Progressive Insured motorist rear-ended and totalled my '93 Century. Intially they were valuing my 10-disc changer that was destroyed as a STOCK option. I had to introduce them to the fact that 1 - the '93 Century never had a 10 disc changer option and 2 - It was a SONY not a Delco setup. I presented receipts and pushed them to giving almost 100% the value of the equipment (since it was only installed for 6 months). So the value quickly went from $60 to $230 for the changer. The rest of the itemization was a mess (Progressive SUCKS IMO).

Anycase, if I were you, looking at how imbedded your GA and the tree are, I'd off it, total it, forget it... The body is probably buckled in strange places, bent in ways you may not want to work with, so on and so forth.... That is why so many people are telling you it may not drive "like it used to". The quality of the drivabilty after an accident like that depends on the extent of damage and quality of the repair work (and experience of the repair team)....

Now, look at my Camaro in the link below. My '84 Chevy Camaro, my pride and joy... Spun into a telephone pull in January of '99... Many people said it could not be fixed and it would never drive right again if it was. I will admit, this contridicts what I just said. This car is fixed and drives straight as an arrow and is pretty damn good (I plan to eventually strip it down and restore it now that 4 years later my engine blew a bearing)... The Camaro is a great car (still), but if I had it to do over again, I would have done it differently.....

http://crzyz28.sytes.net/accident.html

Now, my Camaro also was a quarter panel and axel basically... Your GA is an entire front end. I would consult some HONEST and SERIOUS repair people (both mechanics and auto body people). I'm guessing the engine and trans are toast with where that tree is. But get some professional opinions... I did that when my Camaro incident occurred....

just a little tip:

whenever you do major mods to your car, such as body kits, high tech systems and stuff like that, call up your insurance company and tell them these things. yeah i know they're going to charge you more money for the mods, but when something like this happens, you're covered.

yep, that's so true, any audio mods, body or engine Mods etc. Tell them before-hand.

BTW, if you're building a show car only or race only, and you're in the UScheck with Grundy insurance. Watch any of the Car shows on TNN or speed channel, it'll be there. A friend wrote off his 49 Mercury lead sled (and man did he weep) coming home from a show, but since he was in touch with them and kept about 400 pounds of documents, bills of sale, etc. they re-imbursed him the full value of the vehicle (about $90k CDN, that car was sweetness on moonies!).

If it's a day to day driver, I've had no problems what so ever with State Farm, but then again, I've never been in a serious accident with any of my vehicles (that were new... I about killed my old sunbird, but that's another story). However, when my dad tested his Slammed Suburban's submarine abilities (by mistake) They wrote the truck off and now he's got a project truck (ins buyback, salvage title) but there was no problems doing that.

Fausto

When people say the car is never the same after an accident.....it can mean a lot of things. Body parts that don't fit quite like they should, doors/trunk/hood that won't close properly, paint color/luster that doesn't match, premature corrosion/rust, water leaks, creaks/squeaks/rattles, shaking/shimmys, uneven tire wear, electronic gremlins and a number of ofther things. It all depends on how badly the car is damaged and how good the techs are at the body shop. Judging from the damage on your car, I'd say it would cost at least $3,000+ to get that car back into tip top shape. Should have let the insurance total the car and started over from scratch IMHO.

HEy man, sorry about your car.

I totalled my 97 gagt back in may, i was going about 50 when some guy kept hesitating and made a
left turn right in front of me, i hit him and then hit a telephone pole. But other than some neck and shoulder pain i was untouched, since it was the guys fault i got covered, i was soooo bummed out, just the whole front end of that perfect car was in rubble on the concrete, i had only had it for 9 months. Be weary of adjusters, they tried to tell me that some of that stuff was from a different accident, it pissed me off so much but the body collision guy said there was no way it was from a different accident. so they evaluated my car, fearing i was going to get next to nothing back from that car, i ended up getting 6351!!! i was sooo happy, seeing as how it has 88900 and we paid 6000 for it back when it had 76000 on it. With that money and a little extra from my open house i purchased a 99' grand am gt, i love it. Well sorry for blabbling on and on but i guess things happen for a reason, and sometimes its for the better, now god knows i wouldn't have gone through that again even if i knew i was going to get a better car.

you take care of yourself, i hope everything is turning out ok

tido_29
08-06-2003, 07:48 AM
Well go it back and its running good. There are a few minor things that need to be fixed. Mainly the front bumper... i need an aed front and well i think I might have found it :)

it actually doesnt loook that bad w/ the GT front and the AED kit. but i would much rather have it the way i had it before.

wait wait wait...

If the accident was because of those Autozone pedels then sue them for the repairs. Or atleast sue them for the price of the AED bodykit.

In fact if you get a good lawyer you could argue that the pedels could have lead to a fatal accident, and sue them for millions! :-).

I think you should look into that ;-).

Anyways, sorry to hear about your grand am. A branch took out my fog light, sure it's not quite as bad as your accident, but it just sucked :-(.
