well, looks like I gotta say byebye to the rental. It was fun having it :)
Basically, my neighbor backed her Grand Am into my parked car. She damaged the driver side door and left a little ding on the front fender panel. The bodyshop replaced the entire door shell + repaired the front panel and repainted both the door and the fender.
For a 7 year old paint, it matched pretty well! the BMW specialized bodyshop is probably one of the most expensive and best around here in the s. bay area, CA. The guy said the paint matched well because the paint was taken care of over the years :) Total work totalled $1916.
Lemme know what u think!

hehe actually there's no wax on the car. I stripped it before sending it into the bodyshop.
I'm going to get some 3M swirl remover for dark cars and then use Klasse for polishing and waxing.
Before, I've been using Zymol to take care of the paint but now I'm moving towards the best brand for wax... Klasse.

not that hard to match paint. they just try different shades starting at stock and work there way until they find a match. I added a spoiler to my 93 and the paint on the spoiler(9 months old) matchs the car perfectly(10 years)

I've been painting for 17 years now & all I can say is if it's easy for you at 16, then you're a prodigy. Some colors ar easy, some aren't. High metalics will give you a headache more often than you'd think & don't even get me started on the Kameleon colors!
Also, black is the easiest of them all to match. there's barely any variences in black. that's the best way to paint a new door, by the way. Off the car, you can easily get to the doorframe areas & you don't have to worry about covering the whole car. Absolutely no chance of overspray on the car if it isn't even in the booth.
I paint doors, hoods & trunk lids off the car for those reasons. In fact, I'll be in the booth at 5:30 am shooting my trunk lid & spoiler off the car. ( I got rid of the stock Buck Rogers looking spoiler for a touring wing.)

i was mainly worried about the clearcoat matching... i thought one would look extremely glossier and have more depth than the other.
