oh man i almost got one of those 250 dollar two stage boost controlers, then i started thinking...i just need a vacume switch to make it work, went to the parts store and got one for a egr purge valve, a few wires and a vacume tee and bam! i got boost on a switch! saves on my gas milage too, cause i got a lead foot. it only cost me 15 dollars.

Do you have any adjustment or is it an on/off type deal?

i have a bleed off type controler, the switch is routed before it and it all connects on a tee spliter on the wastegate line, i can ajust the bleed off but switch dosent flow enough for more than 10psi. so im switching between 5 and 10psi

now ive got a better way to up your boost, the bleed off type i used before would not hold the desired boost, at least on my car it would hit 10psi and then drop to 8. it took me a whole 15 minunites to ajust my waste gate, this way you dont have a vacume leak. oh i forgot to tell u guys before, i wouldnt recomend raising your boost until you get a blow off valve. let me know if anyone is intrested.

why do you not recomend raising boost with out blow off valve?

As you release the accelerator to engage the clutch and shift gears, the throttle plate closes, which results in boost pressure backpedaling toward the compresser.
When boost pressure is forced back into the compresser, it significantly slows the spinning compresser wheel.
At high boost levels the rapid deceleration can be a shock to the units bearings and seals.
A blow off valve relieves the pressure by allowing it to escape instead of having to travel back through the turbo and out of the air filter.
They also provide quicker spool up between shifts and increase longevity of the turbo.

ahh i knew what a blow off valve did dident know why i shouldent raise my boost with out one tho considering im planing on raiseing it alot ill invest in one earlyer than i wanted to i do know that a return BOV is better than one that just blows the air out .

the reason is if you blow the air off the sensors have already accounted for that air your blowing off and wen you hit the gas again youll be running rich as if you return it you wont have that problem but if you like the sound of the BOV get one that blows the air out.

Im getting a return one my self.

Im not sure, but i think on our cars we wont have to worry about that running rich problem.
i think bypass valves are more for engines that have MAF (mass air flow) sensors. our cars have, or should i say at least my car has a MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor.
By all means i dont think it will hurt to have a bypass valve, but i really like the sound of my blow off.
I got the "TurboXs H-RFL".its really loud, if im driving next to someone and let it blow off, it will make you jump.
My car runs rich all the time anyway. i turned my fuel pressure regulator up to 50psi. i wanted to make sure i dont run lean under higher boost. i dont think there is any bad side effects to running rich, is there?
i know i can drop a few horsepower if you run your car rich but running lean can cause detonation.
oh yea, that last post was a direct quote from turbo magazine, i already know you knew what a BOV is, but i thought i would just throw that in for everyone else, sorry if i sounded like a jerk.

Not at all man just letting ya know

Now that you said map sensor or maf sensor it makes me think back to where I heard that, and it said with a (MAF) u need a return BOV or you'll run rich dident say anything about (MAP) sensor tho. If I can put a BOV on I will as long as it dose not cause any problems at all, I love that sound i just dont like it when the bov is out of control and it goes off 2 much, it would drive me nuts lol.

Only $600 more and ill finally be the biggest step forward to driveing my car ever lol. Now its all crappy weather here so im debateing if I do get the money to put it on the road soon if i will at all till spring. It would not be cool to smash it up beacuse of bad weather before i ever get to really drive it.

I remember talking with my son about DSM bypass vs. blow off valves. One problem with a MAFS is that you get intermittant backfires during shifts when you don't reroute the bleed air. Of course this is with a stock ECU and MAFS. The guys that run stand alone systems don't have to worry about is since they eliminate the need for a MAFS.

I've been working for a while to get my boost safely increased. For a while it just wasn't working. Turns out my stock GA waste gate actuator was crap. Since I'm running a turbo off a Nissan CA18DET I did a little fabricating and got the Nissan actuator installed. Still no increase. After some reasearch and checking the car I realized that the waste gate wasn't closed all the way without boost.

To fix it I added a spacer between the actuator mount and the turbo. This pulled the waste gate closed and put tension on the actuator spring. Without a boost controller I'm up to 7 psi which is the stock setting for the Nissan actuator.

Before going for more boost I installed a Spearco boost gauge and a cheapo BOV from a 2G Talon TSi. It may be a ghetto setup but it's fully functional and it's nice to hear the whoooosh when I let off the gas. BOV is set up to vent and there is no affect on performance.

I'll be reinstalling a bleed type controller made with one of these VALVES (http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/productdetail.jsp?xi=xi&ItemId=1611725344&ccitem=) . If I can get my son to bring over his digital camera I'll get some pics posted.

I have a 1988 Grand Am 2.0L Turbo. I just got it and i painted it up all nice. Its is fast, but not crazy fast. I know practiacally shit about the wastegate and BOV's or bypass valves and all that. I want to be able to adjust my boost between none and 10. could ona the experianced guys let me know what i need to do to do that. and if i need a BOV and anything else.
Any bit of info is greatly appreciated.
