View Full Version : Fuel Filter
What is the easiest / safest way to relive the fuel pressure to change the fuel filter on a 94 and 00 3.1 /3.4 F.I. Grand-Am?

... when I replaced my fuel pressure regulator last weekend, all I did was I wrapped a couple rags around teh shrader port and then depressed the valve stem until the pressure was gone (on let out a little gas and only took a couple seconds :)

The 3.1 has a fuel pressure test port located on the fuel rail. It is located on the passenger side of the engine between the alternator mounting bracket and the power steering pump. It should have a small black plastic screw on cap.
The safest way to relieve the pressure at the port is to connect a fuel pressure test gage to it and hit the bleed button. That will allow the gasoline to vent out of the test gage. Just be sure to have something to catch the fuel in when you push the button.
You could also pull the fuel pump fuse and start the engine. let it run until it dies.

Is that valve in the same spot for a '90 Quad4? And can I bleed the pressure the same way safely as well?
thanks
