Most likely it's the tang thing that sticks out to let you know when the brakes are getting low. Could also be a piece of rock stuck some where.

1. Make sure they are installed properly
2. Make sure the shims are installed on the back of the pads.
3. Make sure there's anti-squeel glue between the back of the pads and the shims.

My brakes squeel pretty bad... but after talkin to a couple of technicians, they claim that since I have semi-metallic brake pads, whenever I brake hard it actually forms a thin layer of glass on top of the rotors and thats' what i'm hearing when I apply the brake again as it rubs off. I dont think that's true because it squeels all the time. I did all I could... i gave up lol... damn thing still squeels.

I don't think "glass" is the right term, glass only is formed from sand under extreme heat, the kind of heat that would likely melt rotors, or at least have them glow red hot (which might look kinda cool)
Probably it forms a layer of carbon just like most substances (except ceramics and pure metals) when hot. THe carbon may not be smooth causing a squeal, but thats a guess of mine. who knows, but I've heard as a general rule of thumb, whatever brake pads work just buy the same things when they wear out, and have it installed by the same person if possible!

just a question... did you guys use brake cleaner ? When i replaced my pads i cleaned the rotors with the brake cleaner and then took a piece of sandpaper about 80 grit i used.....and went around the rotor where the pads rub... it helped stop the squeaking etc. If you have any other questions just ask

If it is the indicator then it should be a high pitched noise, then you only got about 2 weeks left on them, well the pads.
