I need your help guys. My engine fan isnt coming on when the engine gets hot. I ran jumper wires from the fan to the battery and the fan came on so thats not the problem. When I check for codes with a paperclip, the fan comes on. But thats the only time it comes on. Any ideas?

... there is a sensor/relay that starts the fan based on engine temperature which most likely is your problem :)

there is actually two sensors for this
One is the sending unit which sends the message to your gauge what the temp is
the other is a temp switch which turns the fan on
you need the switch

the wells part number for the switch is SU174

and for the Sensor it is SU109

you can find these at any automotive store

and just some advice, as long as you are replacing the switch, replace both of them. One other thing to remember is to use teflon tape around the threads of the new sensors

any questions just ask me and i will try to help out much as possible

Are you talking about the relay on the fire wall and the coolant temp sensor? Also if my relay was bad, would the fan come on when I check for codes?

if the fan goes on when you check for codes that means the relay is working fine. :) check out the temp switch or sensor
and then it should come on when your car gets up to around 220 or so..... try that and let me know ok :)

Do you know where the switch is at?
