Are there free mods/cheap mods that you can do to the 1989 2.3L DOHC to make it run faster? I know certian cars have that available, but I wasnt sure if this GA was one of them. I need to start doing something to my car! :D Any Ideas?:???2:

I dunno of any free mods I can think of. Performance usually costs something. Exhast and intake are a good starting point. Beyond that perhaps a chip, a more agressive cam and porting the throttle body, intake and exhaust manifolds may also yield you some more gains. Also check out the links on the FAQ for some light reading...

On that note of adding a cam, wouldn't you want to add 2 cams? Intake and exhaust since our motors are DOHC. You may have ment one, I am asking because a while back i thought i heard someone mention that you could yeild a nice gain by upgrading your exhaust cam and leaving the stock intake cam. I believe that was in refrence to a 95 LO though.

I 'spose I meant cams, but I think the gains are biggest on the exhaust side as you mentioned...

Thanks for the replies! That gives me a couple of things to do, and it should keep me busy. I cant wait! Now, all I need is to save up the funds. :) That is the hard part!

Do any of you know how much Hp my car has stock? I have heard so many different replies, I just want the truth. :help:

Well if you have a VIN A (HO) it was 180 HP, VIN D was I think 150 HP, but later years were 155 HP. That info. should be in your owners manual.

Thanks! I looked it up in the manual, I have 150hp. My cas has a VIN D. See, the truth comes out! Thank you once again! :thanks:

Someone told me that my car only had like 85hp! :bs:

Bah! You don't need A/C just get rid of it and get the smaller serpentine belt, that's a cheap horsepower upgrade :D

I dont really know about that, I kinda want A/C. :P I live in Arizona, it gets pretty hot around here :agree:
But on the other hand, I dont use it now because it doesnt work and I wouldnt have to spend the money on the compressor. Decisions, Decisions! :D


I dont have A/C either ferran586! ;)

this maybe a little late, but i have some input you might find interesting. i have the same exact car you have, maybe the same color (maroon)? (sp). anyways, i have my stock intake but replaced with a nice k&n air filter and for exhaust i have a flowmaster 60 series muffler with a 4 inch tip. there is NO OTHER CAR that sounds like mine, which is why i take pride in my work.
the intake adds a nice whistling at like 2-3000 rpms and sounds nice when you punch it. after that, you might wanna save your pennies and get new cams and a chip, but that is quite expensive.

My car is actually a dark blue! Thanks for the help and advice, I am working on a CAI right now and I will use the K&N filter! You have the flowmaster, I bet your car sounds sweet! I will look into how much one of thoes will cost around here. I am on my way to getting new cams and a chip, but you are right that is expensive. All in good time!

yeah i ordered my flowmaster from summit racing for 90 bucks.
