yeah, the 2.5 's have the distributor less ignition system.. Some of the older models do have a the distributor but i can't remember what years i think up til 87 or 88...I will have to do some checkin on the MSD system and see what we could come up with for the 2.5
easy way to know if you have the (DIS) or you do have a distributor is to follow your wires.
let me know if you any other questions

I don't know what I was thinking... I know my 2.5 has coil packs! duh!
Next...would it really make a difference in performance, and how about the install. What's involved?

How do you get a good look at the coil packs. It looks like you would have to remove the whole intake manifold and the wire loom right infront of them. If anyone else has a better way please post it.

The way the coil pack are situated, other then removing the intake manifold, your just going to have to peek in from the driver side with a drop light or something.
Other then the coil packs, is there even anything back there thats of any importance (maintenance) Of course the trans., is back there, but what about anything else? Just asking because I never had the engine out of mine, and never saw a 2.5 out of a car.

the coil packs on our cars are bastards. but there are only two plugs going into them. on the driver side. To get them out there are three bolts to remove. then turn the wheel all the way to the left and get under the car and work for 20 mins to get them out the bottom of the car. if your down there remove the crank position sensor before removing it, it makes it alot easier. (on the back side of the coils)

MSD 8224........ Direct Replacement...... The coils are not too bad to change, easiest if you get under the car and remove. Just be careful that you don't break your crank trigger.

Does anyone know how to install one of these MSD DIS ignitions on the 2.5?
