View Full Version : Really crazy Idea? Or could it work!

Okay, I've been contemplating a new project motor for the Grand Am. So I would appreciate some opinions as to this idea. I can easily aquire the Venom 2.4 intake manifold. As I don't want to do a 2.4 conversion, I do need the intake setup the 2.4 has for this project. I know the stock intake manifold on the 2.4 is plastic leading me to believe the Venom intake could be plastic as well. So I was trying to figure out how in the world to merge a plastic intake to the 2.3 alloy intake flange so it can bolt to an HO head. Then I really got to thinking. If it's plastic, couldn't I just port match the flange with a dremel? Anyone have any thoughts on this?

K just went back and checked out the Venom Intake and it's CNC Machined Billet Alloy, so I would have to get an intake manifold flange from a 2.3 to weld on to the Venom intake. Could this work?

Might be wrong, but I see the two diggerent types of allow's streaching and shrinking at differant rates. Causing problems at the weld joints in a short amount of time.

Well it's hard to say because manta has an HO intake that fits the Twin cam, all they did was weld the 2.4 flange on to an HO intake manifold.

I haven't seen the parts, but different metals and different thinknesses streach/shrink at different rates. If they are close to the same it might work quite well.
It sounds like you are pretty serious about the mod, I hope it works for you. It will be interesting to hear how it works.

Well I am just going to let the cat out of the bag. I want to see if I can get a 2.4 Supercharger to fit on the Quad 4. Of course it would require a bit of custom work, hence my seeking advice for the Venom intake adaptation. But this could make LO Quad's jump to approx 230HP and who knows what it could do for the HO's.

Well now, maybe there is hope for after maket HP for Quads.

Well there are simple bolt ons for the LO motor that will give you a few more ponies without going to an HO conversion. As for me though, I crave boost. I'd like to build an S/C motor that I can later swap into my sisters Sunfire when I have my Turbo motor ready for my car.

You can TIG weld the 2.4 venom manifold to the quad4 flange. My carb setup could easily have a 2.4TB flange welded to it.. hmmm :cop:
