 What'd you use to mold them on with? Are you going to do the bumpers? Just a friendly warning, I've never seen any bumper molding last past a year or 2 w/out cracking. Sideskirts you may get away with, if you are carefull.

Im not gonna mold the front or rear bumpers for one reason...its a daily driver, and not a trailor queen so there would be little benefit from doing it...it would look good until i hit the first bump and it would crack.

the molding was done using a combination of FUSOR metal/fiber bonding agent, and some rage fiber filler to smooth it out.

That'd be the correct material to use! Most people try to use fiberglas or bondo. that def. don't work. & yes, that's the reasons (The ones you stated) for bumper molds not keeping.

Yea I definitely did not plan on doing this half ass.....and the price of the materials reflects it too....5$ worth of bondo or 70$ worth of fusor? lol

Yeah, any of the 2 part epoxy products are pricey. I'm glad I get mine free from work!:D

Ok so, if I wanted front and rear fascias, they'd crack real soon?

Nice, BTW.

Well, we did not end up completing it today, but we applied the base coat, and got the wetsanding done for the most part....we couldnt even begin on the fascias because they have to be painted off the car, and the booth isnt THAT big :roll2:. Oh well, we are taking what we can get and itll be done soon nuff. Here are some more progress pics. (its the windows of the booth that are dirty, not the cam or car ;) )

now did you fit it to your car and drive it around for about 2 weeks to let it settle to your car? I hope so, because if not - when you go to install it (the bumpers) the paint might crack.

We;ve got it down to a T now. Strip the parts off the car and install and fit new pieces in 4 hours. Not bad for under the tree work and normal everyday tools. If we do a few more cars, I think we can get the times down.

Cool. I hear that on the shop man. We still got a guy running around with a grey kit on his black GT.

I was just asking - we got people here that throw them on and run out for paint and next thing you know, they got fitting and cracking problems.

Guys, what kind of paint are you useing? Honestly, I've never in all my years ever have heard of letting body kits settle. If you secure it firmly, it's not gonna move anywhere, it will however expand & contract a minute amount w/ temp changes but it's not like you'll actually see it either expand or contract a fraction of an inch.

I have had some warped soft urethane kits years ago (Havn't seen any made that way anymore) where I had to heat a bulge & hold it in till it cooled. IS that the problems you have & just wait untill the car gets warm or hot to get the kit to conform?

Jordus

no its just the AED kit is hard 'glass and some proportions come slightly different than where they sit when instaleld. so if you paint, then put on, without letting the kit move that slight amount, it flexes the paint.

JoeyK

The amount they charge for a kit, you'd think it'd be precision fit?!?

Jordus

It is, but because the glass is stiff, it flexes inward a tiny bit on the corners, and they flex back out when installed easily, its just if you painted before prefitting, youd run into a prob.
