Dealer says that he is getting a "transmission slip" code 1870 from computer. Had transmission service center check transmission, but they found no problems. So what does this code actually mean?

The P1870 code is a general code that means the transmission is slipping. I have had this code and had the transmission checked out (it was rebuilt last year) and the shop could not find anything wrong. It was finally determined to be a poor power problem caused by my alternator putting out low current. I had other erroneous codes as well. Anyway, I fixed the alternator problem and have not had any codes latch since.
You might be having the same problem.

Take a look at this ...
1996 GA DTC P1870 Transmission Component Slipping 2.4L (http://www.gaownersclub.com/kbruce/Manual/1996_GA_DTC_P1870_Transmission_Slipping_24L.pdf)
... hope that helps :)

Mike T, if you have a '96, your engine is a 2.4L TwinCam unless a swap was performed. '95 was the last year for the 2.3L Q4. Also the LE trim level was dropped in '92 so you must have an SE or GT. Just a freindly FYI...
