I have a '92 with the 3.3 v6 and was wondering what the normal Oil pressure opperating range is.. Last week I noticed it jump to aproxmately 110 on a guage that tops off at 120. I check oil and it was high So I changed and drained the oil and put back in 4 qts. of SAE10w-30. the pressure dropped when I drove it next but slowly raised back up to almost 100.

should be normally around 60 but should safely be able to go up/down 10-20 psi. my guess would first check to see if the sending unit might be bad

is it hard to replace the oil pressure sending unit? I have a 93 Grand Am GT with the 3300 V6 and I'm having the same problem. The guage moves all over the place. It seems to be the worst right before I need an oil change. Please email me with tips: roxbury500@hotmail.com otherwise I will try to check back here.

Thanks, Kurtis

Yeah I had the same problem and replaced the sending unit. I t wasn't too bad... $40 for the part and I did it myself at my friends garage. Just had to put it on the lift and disconnect the old one and pull it out then snap the new one and hook the wire back up.

I think I'll try replacing the sending unit. I can just use on of the lifts at the dealership I work at. Where exactly is the sending unit located? I'm guessing that you have to be below the car to get at it (lift - Duh), but is it on the passenger side by the oil filter, or is it on the driver's side?
Thanks!
