Does anyone know how to remove or disable the governor on my 1993 SE with a 3300?
Also at what speed does it shut down the engine?

if you disable the governor.. your check engine will come on and you will not have any speedomiter.. im not sure if the engine will even turn over

Whoa i had no idea of the reprocussions of disabling the governor. Thanks for the info. All i wanted to do was take of the 170 (i think its 170kph) cap off the car. If you know another way to accomplish this that would be appreciated.

this is where jet chips come in to play. most chips ( ask before you buy ) will disable the gov and increase the rev limiter.

I agree chipping your car would have a better result and with no unwanted side effects. Just be careful what you buy and you know the consequences of it.

being in calgary. start with mopac or gyon raceing. the biggest draw back and 1 thing to keep in mind is my bud has a 98 maro that he chiped as well. the check engine light came on right after and him taking the car to the dealer several times has not corrected the problem so make sure you hang on the the old chip thay take out of you E.C.M incase you need to switch back.

is yours a gt because my speedometer only goes to 110 whether it goes further I dont know cause I havent tried

mine is an SE but i think i have the GT gauges B/C i have a tach.

the tach is part of an optional gauge set. its like another option on the car. you can get the standard instrument cluster (speedo, gas, temp) or you can get the optional cluster(oil level, speedo, tach, gas, temp, and a bunch more)

I don't think 3300's have a governor because I raced a 91 Cavalier once and his shut off at like 120 or 125. He said I just kept pulling away.

No its not a governor, its a limiter that is controlled by the pcm's software

yeah i have a 93 se and my spedo says 180 KM but im sure ive past that..

Ihave a 93 gt and speedo sayes 200km but governs out at 180km

I jusy bought my Jet Stage 2 chip from Stillen.com and it makes a huge diffrence... took like 2 minutes to install too, i thought there would be more to it.

Well tonight I was in the situation where I had to go fast....really fast...top end power on this car is great :d. But....the speedo stopped at 180kmh, and it made me sad! Lol

Ok time to get serious! Where can I buy this JET chip of which you guys speak? Does it do anything else besides remove the limiter? I mean will i get more power out of my car or what? And can i install it myself without having crazy ass mechanic skills?

3300 Represent! Lol

You would have to have a programmer make one for ya, only costs a few bucks though. all it is is PROM (Programmable read only memory) I dont know about the installation though. It would be nice to have a higher rev limiter, stock rev limiter is 5700, i wouldnt mind taken it up to 6000!!! She can handle it and then the RPMS wouldnt drop out of the powerband so much when she shifts=more power!!!

Well, today my car wasn't downshifting to 1st all the time so I lost hope quickly....****in GM! Anyway im not putting money into the car anymore unless i find a 4speed tranny from the 94-98 Gt!

Mags r an exception cuz they hold their value

Well if you were goin more than 40 mph chances are it wouldnt downshift to 1st, and if you were goin more than 90 it wouldnt downshift to 2nd...

The 4 speed would be from a mid to late 80's Century, an A Body car.

Stillen doesn't even list a 92 GA

Ya thats what I meant about the 4speed, wasnt payin attention haha.

And Gary I mean it wasnt downshifting...like when i rolled to a stop.....i accelerated and it was forcing like a crazy man cuz it was in 2nd or something ugly like that. Then it would downshift at like 20mph and vrooooom power....when i didnt need it lol

Sound like a torque converter solenoid problem to me.

I couldn have said it better myself, same thing on my car a few years back, they are common on the 3300. The bad news it costs a couple hundred bucks...

but I did find on another form that you can just disconect the TTC and I am going to try this over the weekend
