I got a 95 Grand Am, and had a few questions.
Do you think the stock 6 by 9's are good quality or should I upgrade them, I saw some Sony Xplod's or some nice Pioneers at wal-mart for a decent price, and will they be any better then the stock?
And.., im going to get a cd player soon to, and was wondering, when I buy the cd player, will it have everything I need to hook it up? And does installing it become a hassle. As in taking the stock one out, etc..
Thanks

youll definitly be able to tell a difference between factory speakers and aftermarket ones. when you buy a new radio it comes with basic stuff to install it. you would still need to buy a wiring harness to go the factory one, probably a antenna adapter, and the trim plate. all of that will cost ya about $25. installing it should be pretty easy.

I just bought some $30 jensens from best buy. They sound pretty good, several of my friends have asked "do you have subs" lol but anyways nothing fancy but still sound nice. Only thing is putting them in, have to basically rip out the whole back interior.

I just put in an Alpine HU with my stock speakers and am really surprised as to how good it sounds. The guy at the stereo shop told me that American cars generally have fairly good speakers and Japanese are basically throw aways.
I just bought some Pioneer 6x9's and they SUCK! The bass is horrible with all 4 speakers, and 2 tweeters playing. When I put in my bass mix, I usually just use the front left and the back left speaker, that config has the best bass.
My main question, if I buy a deck, will it make my speakers sound better? This might be a question to the person who posted this topic too.

blk95ga, that is true, im getting a nice pair of pioneeres from a friend for cheap and i looked to see about installing them and the speakers are installed from the top, most cars they are installed from the bottom, even my haynes manual said they are mounted on the bottom, i ripped up the back interior ahead of time, just the front behind the seat, there is enough room to slide the speakers out, i only broke a little bit on one end where the seat belt hole is

Yeah, my old car had bottom mount speakers which i loved! But my ga now is a pain. I don't know how many clips on the trim i broke because i was getting frustrated. lol I just know that I don't want to change them out ever again.
As far as the other question, i'm not a whiz on this stuff but yes, i do believe some decks can improve the sound of your speakers. But you might want to check with somebody more experienced in that deparment.

if you buy audio stuff, i'd go w/ crutchfied.com. you get everything you need to install (brackets, wire harnesses, etc) for free.

i dont really care for pioneer speakers either. some of their top end stuff is pretty good. i like kenwood, alpine, infinity, kicker, and the list can go on. if you want some good speakers, go to a stereo shop. wal-mart isn't known for having excellent sounding car audio.

Well wal-mart or crutchfield dont really matter, same kind of speakers, just the lower end ones of pioneer or Sony, although crutchfield has a wide selection and all, pricing and shipping will be a pain. So Sony Xplod's or Pioneer...and with installing the HU, is putting the trim on a pain to?

sickness: it sounds like you may have your polarity switched on one side of the car, or maybe even on just the rear speakers. try switching the wires on one of the 6x9's and see if you get the response you should have.

You can find a lot of info. with the search button. Try this thread which has links to several others: http://www.gaownersclub.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=12543
Also, the LE trim level (in your car info.) was dropped in '92, only SE and GT were available in '95 and there have never been 2.1 L engines in any GrandAms.

So maybe the 2.1 was a typo for 2.3 or 3.1? :D
