The subject basically says it all.. I just bought a '95 Grand Am GT 2D with the 3.1L V6 under the hood.. but it also has 136k miles on it. Eventually I'll be thinking about an engine swap and I heard that the new 3.4L's would fit. Is that right or wrong? Also.. if it does fit does anyone know how easily it would fit.. and any problems i'd have to overcome swapping one for the other? Thanks..

Its a perfect fit, just make sure to find a pre 00 3400 or else you will have to change the upper intake manifold due to different EGR or make an adapter plate. Also, by doing so, you can just use the 3400s fuel injectors and harness instead of having to use the old ones. You will also have to use the old computer so you dont need any of the new harness. PM Jazzman, cuz he just did it not too long ago..... infact there are a couple threads he and others made in regards to this topic which should answer all your ?s

Also when you say pre-'00.. what years am I looking for? (how far back did the 3.4L run..)

... he should of said pre-99 as this was the first year the Grand AM used a 3.4 :)

this includes a 99 3400, so all 96-99 3400s

My bad ... I didn't read the entire question ... I thought he was looking to know if the RAM-AIR would fit on a 3.1 ... sorry :)

Any particular year favored over another? Or should I go with the cleanest/lowest milage one I can find without worrying about the model year..

best condition, low mileage one is best...... if you have a choice, choose one from a minivan like a Trans Sport or Venture, cuz their exhaust manifolds are slightly more free flowing
