put a tach on a tachless car

my friend has a 85 monte with a 5L. her car has no tach, but she wants to add one (a small one if possiable). can it be done? does she need a special tach?

yes it is possible, you have to go buy an aftermarket tach and hook it up to a wire but I can't remember which one.

85 monte tach wire is purple/white stripe, or white at the distributor

You will also need a pos. wire and a neg. ground wire. You will also have to splice into your dash light wire (I think) so that the tach will be lit at night. It would be really helpful if you had a wiring diagram.

Ignition- Pink 12awg in ignition harness
Ground- use one of the steering column bolts, or go to any clean metal surface
