So you decided to use that amp? Thats cool.
2ch input,
Input Level you will have to set by ear. what I do is put in a bass heavy "original" cd and set the deck to the full ranges. Then I turn on the sub outputs and turn up the input untill the sub distorts and then turn it down just a little.
Gain Factor, probably 0db if you have a decent deck.
Low Pass on,
Frequency 60-70 hz,
Sub Sonic on,
Frequency 15-20 hz.
Parametric on,
frequency 40-45 hz,
Width probably 2,
Level shouldn't really be more then 6.
Last two should be off when runnign subs and no phase shifting either.
personal opinion. If you want more light on a specific setting let me know and I'll do my best. Lee

well i decided to use that amp cuz the store says my subs are 2 ohm they said u were wrong?

so how would i hook them up 2 ohm?

Are they dual 4 ohm voice coils on each sub? Or are they single 4 ohm voice coil subs? If they are dual there is no way to hook both up to a 2 ohm load. If they are sigle then just hook the positive wire from each sub together and do the same for the negative and run them to the amp. Lee

Chuckles.. plz! man.. with such a beautiful amp you gotta get the know how on car audio fast man. Id die for that amp.. all im stuck with is the m500. As for teh setup what btchn says is pretty good. You have to fine tune some of those aspects.. simply because your subs will be different from others, thus different qualities. But generally is what btchn says. The offer is still on the table if you wanna trade amps.. plus me giving you some money. how much.. well that all kinda depends

did you ever say if your subs were single or dual voice coil each. Try unhooking one sub and tell me if it gets louder. Peace, Lee

yea chucks. I got msn. Basically all I did to learn aobut setups for this amp.. is got the instruction manual and started figuring out how to alter the sound ( me and my buddy are so used to dials.. we were both totally lost when it comes to digital ). All I did was break out a CD that plays the type of music I usually listen to .. and started altering the settings while the music was playing.. I found that just by using my ears i could produce the sound I wanted. As for competitions.. I do the same thing ( considering I usually listen to punk.. which is very different than comp CD's) Just pop in a competition CD then start adjusting. Most of tthe settings you dont change.. except for the LP filter, SS filter and the Para EQ. Those are the big ones that you alter to produce more/less bass. my email is cookie_monster3050@hotmail.com if you ever wanna chat on msn.. thats the email I use the most.

hey i changed gain factor to +9 and it sounds really loud
whats gain factor mean?

btchn1
09-09-2003, 09:50 PM
I'll see if I can explain this as I am use to drawing pictures. If you have your gain factor on 0 then when your gain is turned all the way up it needs lets say 1 volt of input to make its full power. Now when you put it on +9 it only needs lets say .25 volt to make its full power. Now these are just made up numbers as I would have to see the amp or manual to give youthe correct numbers, but the point is the same. I guess the decks output voltage is lowerthen I had thought. You never did say how you have those subs wired? Lee

ok the subs i just have them both hooked on seperate wires to the amp like there own pos and neg to the amps for both subs i didnt notice too much of a difference when only one was hooked up there was a difference tho

do u have msn or icq btchn1?

I'm sorry but no I do not have msn or icq. I did pm you though. I don't think I ever heard from YOU if your subs were single or dual voice coil subs. Lee

ya i did it was number 1 lol i e-mailed u back ?

anyways i guess im running at 1 ohm so why is that bad?

the lower the ohm load the more power your amp makes. Some amps can handle real low ohm loads and some can't . If you load an amp down to low it basically dies. You will fry the mosfets in the amp because you are asking it to do way to much. Like asking a metro to pull a yatch out of the water. Your amp is made to only go down to two ohms and make 1000 watts. If you continue to run it down to 1ohm like you are doing know I give it a week before it shuts down. Peace, Lee

see if ther is some way you can bring it up to 2 ohms.. im running my m-500 at 1.5 ohms and its no problem.

btchn1
09-11-2003, 04:07 PM
Sorry but you can't just take an ohm load to 2 ohms. With two dual 4 ohm voice coil subs you can only get 1ohm or 4ohm. thats it. If you want 2 ohms either run one sub or get two new single 4ohm voice coil subs. Peace, Lee

I know btchn.. im jsut saying.. the amp CAN handle a 1.5 ohm load.. but hed have to change subs to get that. I just stated, that he should try to get a 2 ohm load otherwise he would run into troubles with that amp.

ok then so could u please draw me a diagram of a safe way to wire my amp and subs please

btchn1
09-11-2003, 11:34 PM
I sent you the drawing to set your subs up at 4ohms. I already know what you are going to say. Your subs are not very loud at all, and thats because we cut your power in half, but your amp will last past this weekend. I know you don't want to hear it cause you love your alpine but you need a different amp if you really want to push those subs. Or get different subs to really push that amp. I hope I have been of some assistance to you and good luck, Lee

is ur amp a 1ohm or 2ohm?

Pte Socks
09-13-2003, 12:36 PM
all v12's are 2 ohm amps. I seriously wish i could help you here man. I got away lucky when I decided to buy the w6's that i have. I was orginally goign to go with the alpine R12's but then i thought the JL's looked better. Heheh little did I know what different ohm loads make a huge impact on things. Im running with my DVC's at 1.5 ohms. Basicaly all I can say is that the amp seems to be able to handle this amount. Basically its not realy your amp thats causing the problems but infact the subs which just dont want to combine with your amp. Its a terrible thing because infact.. if you are running your system at 4 ohms.. you are making less power than my system with the m500 at 1.5 ohms. I just dont know what to say man. Id be pretty pissed off at the guys who sold you the amp. They should have known you would run into problems like this. I got lucky when i bought my stereo and it turned out pretty good... unfortuanly in your case i think you got screwed over. Is there anyway you can take your amp back to the shop you got it at .. and pick up lets say a JL 1000/1? they are almost the same amp performance wise.. but the JL has a smart chip that allows it to be run at loads of 1.5 ohms->4 ohms. But then it isnt digital.
