For the past few weeks i have been having really high oil pressure somewhere within 45-50PSI in 80degree weather.. i dont think its normal?

is it

thanks

High Oil pressure is good. Low is bad. I run about 80 when I fire up the beast and she settles her way down to 50. May need a 3.3 guru though, as I don't know Jack about them.

Your oil pressure sound about right to me. Low oil pressure is something to worry about. As Largefish said......I'm not real familiar with the 3.3 either, but it can't be much different than the 3.4 as far as the oil pressure is concerned.

After your car warms up the ambient temperature has little effect on your oil pressure except under extreme conditions. After warming up if that your oil pressure at cruising speed 1750-3000 RPM is 45 –50 PSI . I think it’s right where it should be. Most pumps will bypass above 50-55 PSI. If after reaching operating temperature your oil pressure at idle is 45-50 PSI then I would begin to think that there’s some kind of problem. (Blockage ,bad sender, bad gage, ) and I would look deeper in to it. Prior to the engine reaching operating temperature your oil pressure will vary with the ambient temperature and the oil viscosity and I wouldn’t worry if that is the case.

what is a good pressure pressure range to be in at idle, after reaching operating temperature? mine idles at about 37psi, and gets as high as 50 when accelerating hard.

IMHO if your idling at the proper speed, this is kind of high. Are you running 5w30 oil? What brand and type of gage are you using? An reading in the 20-25 PSI range would be about right.

what could cause it to run high? i'm running castrol 5w30 gtx. also, the pressure gauge is an electrical z-series gauge made by Autometer. thanks for your help.
