When I installed my subs, amp, and capacitor in my car I also installed a switch to turn on/off the power to the amp. However, after I went to school my brother said the battery drained and they had to get a new one. Does anybody know what could be causing this problem. I believe I hooked the switch up correctly.

Generally when a battery drains you don't need a new one, you just need to charge it. You only need to replace it if a cell has gone South.

I need to know whey it died though....what would have caused it to do that?

Check to see if the amp's power light is still on when you flip the toggle off. Just curious but why did you hook your amp upto a toggle and not to the amp turn on wire on the deck or to a ignition wire? did this ever happen before you put in the amp? What kind of amp is it? Lee

ok, somehow the remote wire got pulled out of the back of my HU, that is why i hooked the amp power to a toggle.
secondly, everytime I turned the toggle off the bass turned off, meaning there was no power to the amp.
so I do not understand why my battery was being drained, that toggle does not drain the battery and the amp was not powered when the toggle was off.

I have acually seen an amp one time drain a battery even though it didn't appear to be on. Does your battery still go dead alot or just that one time? If it goes dead all the time try bypassing the cap once then if it still dies try taking the fuse out for the power to the amp. (you did put in an inline fuse right?) Thsi will tell you which peice is doing it then you can substitute a freinds amp or cap to double check. Peace, Lee

As said before, why didn't you use a remote wire, you could still put a switch inline with the remote wire, that's what I did for mine. Just tap a fuse if you don't want to pull out your deck.
Maybe it wasn't the amp, did he leave the headlights on, something else on?
Did you tap your amp's 12v power from the batt. for your remote wire?
If you're sure that the switch was installed correctly, and it was switched off, the amp is not going to draw any power. It will only draw power when the remote wire is getting 12v.

the switch was installed correctly because everytime I turned the switch off the amp turned off..I even watched the little amp power light go off. I am almost certain my brother did something to cause the battery drain, he just won't admit to it

You gotta trust me on this one, I have seen an amp shut off but still draw power. Just take it out and check it in the morning or when ever to see if its the problem. It won't hurt to try. Good Luck, Lee
