When driving at higher speeds, say like 65-75 MPH, I have a slight shaking in the steering wheel. The shaking gets worse and I am able to also feel it in the pedals and seat when I let off the gas. I have had the tires and rims checked, but they check out. Any thoughts?

i've had some vibrations in my car lately, but its at all speeds, i just don't notice it until i'm coasting (or just not really accelerating). i got the car checked and it needs a new wheel bearing and hub. might be your problem too.

Yeah, i've got the same problem too but only at higher speeds. Hopefully it just needs an allignment and nothing else......guess we'll see!

I'm guessing it's been done. But has the tire pressure been checked. If the two are off much it will cause a wigglr at hight speeds,
Also if you have had the wheels off for any reason lately they may just need loosened and retightened. I've fixed a few cars that way. Soo simple the first time I never thought it would help. But it did and has a few more times.

What did the new bearing and hub run you? About $600? Was your low trac light acting up and then ultimately go out also?

Thanks!

i didn't get mine replaced because i couldn't afford it, but the dealer wanted about $400 w/ labor for the left front bearing hub.

yeah my trac light has been acting up, but thats becuz the ABS harness is shorted out also.

Puckman27;

The dealer was trying to rip you off as ususal. A new bearing will cost you between $60.00 and $140.00. That means they are trying to charge you between $330.00 and $260.00 for an hour's worth of work.

I just paid 5 bucks for a used hub at a local u-pull-it. It was only 20 minutes work to pull it off with the right tools. (t55 socket in a 1/2" drive breaker bar, and a allen key socket to pull off the caliper)

yeah i know they're tryin to rip me off. but either way i got no money to fix it. NAPA has a bearing hub for 144 by the way.

you could have something loose in your front suspension. If any thing has play in it your car will shake like you said at high speeds. It could be the hub bearings but it could also be a tie rod end or a control arm bushing.

Anything and everything can cause your car to vibrate. Alignment, tire pressure, balancing, suspension, brakes, linkage. Just about anything and everything. You kinda have to check components one at a time to figure it out. A grinding sound is a wheel bearing usually, play in your tire can be cause by tie rod or control arm. You can check the rim to make sure you didn't lose any of those little weights. Lightly apply the brake and see if you get a rough response if your roter is warped.
