My floor mats are pretty muddy from the dirty winter weve been having, and I need to clean them. A friend of mine told me to just toss em in the washing machine and thatll do it fine. Is that a good idea, or should I just take em out and use like a carpet cleaner or something?

I throw mine in the washing machine, that works great.
Just make sure you set the washing machine to delicate so it doesn't tear them apart and put them with the face towards the agitator so it rubs them well. Then, when it's on spin, turn the carpets around so that the front faces the outside of the bowl so that the water drains more easily.
I usually do that in the summer and let them dry outside but I guess you could use a hairdryer to dry them. I wouldn't recommend the drying machine as they might be a little heavy to be stumbled around.

Thats cool. I learn something new all the time. I just use my carpet shampooer. Does it not tear up the rubber on the under side of it? And do you put it in the dryer when you are done?

The rubber on the underside was fine, I didnt put it in the drier though I just took a haird dryer to it and then set it on the vents on my rooms overnight...

Thats what I do...the washing machine works great!! I just let mine air dry, no dryer. I did make the mistake of washing some towels with them though, and it took me forever to get all the white lint off of the floor mats.

I fill my tub with hot water and tide and scrub the hell out of them with a nylon bristle brush. Then I get out the carpet cleaner and suck out the water. My wife hates it when I do this but oh well.

I usually just use the foaming carpet cleaner (Since the Carpet mats are only used in the summer months... winter mats are rubber with a good lip...

Those rubber mats are a life saver. I just did a pair of mats for a friend and since I don't have an extractor I used the soak-in-the-bath-tub method as well, with some 303 C&H cleaner and a soft brush.
