I just bought a 1990 Grand Am from a friend who needed some money. I paid only $100 for it, and it still runs. I have a problem after driving for a few miles, when stopping, the engine stalls. Put it in park, and it starts right up, go to put it in gear, and it stalls again. Any suggestions?

UNPLUG THAT BLUE LIL BLOCK RIGHT UNDER THE RUBBER AIR HOSE, THAT WILL MAKE IT STOP STALLING, IT WORKED ON MY CAR

That plug is for the lock-up torque converter. It gives you higher gearing on the highway and will give you better mileage on a trip if it is connected, but after engaging, it can stick and cause a classic stall as you exit the highway and slow down at the end of the ramp.

low oil pressure is a sure way to ruin your engine. Have your mechanic check the actual pressure with a gauge, then don't run it until the problem is resolved. You want to avoid the engine swap.

Three things: Bigsnoopdogg
1: Turn off your caps locks
2: dont hijack someones thread
3: dont double post a topic
As for the stalling problem it is classic, do a search on tcc selenoid on here and you will see others with the same problem. It is the four prong square blue plug located on the front of your bellhousing. Unplug it and leave it unplugged and your good to go permanently. Mine has been unplugged for over 4 years now. It will be the only blue plug on the front of the ransmission, so locating it cant be too hard.

here is a picture of the engine bay, it shows the transmission, with the plug unplugged. your looking at the bay from above orientated like you were sitting in the driver seat. hope this helps you fix the problem.

Thank guys!!!
Removed the TC wire and problem solved. Now I need a new paint job, valve cover gasket and some odds and ends. If I wanted to fix the Torque Converter problem How should I go about it.
