My security light has a mind of it's own. It comes on for a while then goes off, or it will come on and stay on. If it starts to blink I cant start my car. anyone know a quick fix, I really dont want to take it to the dealer. (they cost too much) and Im a single mom who really needs her car. Its a 99 grand am se. any help would be heaven sent.
thanks

Oh ... OK ... does you car have an aftermakret component installed that allows it to be started remotely from the push of a button on your key fob?

There's no real quick fix for that. It's probably the PassLock module in the ignition that's failing.

I,m not sure a private shop can replace that, might be a dealeronly repair.

That is where I was heading but I thought maybe a remote start was recently installed ... back on topic though, I would suspect you have a problem with the Passlock module as Ben said meaning you probably have two options (three if you want to simply "live with it" :D) ... #1, you can contact the dealer and see how much it would be for them to replace it or ... #2, you could contact a local stereo shop and look for a Passlock Bypass module that would essentially 'bypass' it (in order to not cause probably such as you are now having, shops that normally install remote starters typically install these 'bypass modules' so you don't end up getting a 'security' light) ... anyway, sorry for rambling ... GOOD LUCK!! :)
