I'm not positive but I beleive the swr1041d is dual 4 ohm voice coil which is what you want and the swr1021d is dual 2 ohm voice coil. I would ask to be sure though. Lee

what kind of amp are you hooking them to? 1 or 2 channel? how many subs are you planning on adding? the 4 ohms can be wired to either 8 or 2 ohms and the 2 can be wired to 1 or 4.

I'm planning on having two of them hooked up to a Profile CL1200 2 channel amp.

Then you want the swr1041d's so you can run the amp at 2 ohms stereo. Lee

I could never get the alpines to sound worth a crap so I'm no help. They got real loud but I never liked the sound. I suppose follow what alpine will suggest on their spec sheet. Good Luck, Lee

I have my Type R 12's (1221D's) in a sealed box...it was about .88 cu. ft. and to me they sound great. They call for a box about 1 cu. ft. , but can be in an enclosure as small as .7 cubes. (sealed) For Ported box .75 -1.75 cu.ft.

Personally I'd stick with a sealed box for them. I've heard a Type R 12 in a ported box and it sounded like poop...at least if your into having good sound quality. the only time I like ported enclosures is for SPL use.
