I've been having a strange problem with my car as of late. I went to start it yesterday and it wouldn't. I wasn't to happy..after carefull examination I found that the theftlock/passlock had somehow activated itself....well after the stupid 10 minute deactivation, I began driving it again thinking it may have just been a coincidence...the next day it did it again. I called my local gm dealership and they informed me it is most likely my aftermarket viper car alarm/remote starter. So then I took it to the place where I had it installed (Future Shop-Hey I got it for christmas, wouldn't have been my first choice) They looked at it and could not find anything wrong. Has anyone else had an experience like this? If so what did you do? And I apoligize for my this thread making little to no sense...I'm pretty tired.

This will not help in the long run.....but if you pull the ground on the battery, it will reset the codes. Clearing the (with any luck) code stopping the car from starting.

If you find yourself stranded, it might be worth a try. You may have to reprogram your radio, but depending on where your at, you might not care.

Also do a search on here about the theftlock problem...seems like others have told people how to get around it.

... did they install a PassLock Bypass Module as well with the auto starter? If not ... that is your problem :)

yes they did install a bypass module for the passlock system. They did replace it when I took it to future shop, but they didn't think it was the problem.

Typically, if you 'security' light is on ... there can only be two problems (if you have a remote starter installed) ... the Bypass Module itself or the Passlock Module :) ... in my expierience anyway ... maybe I am wrong

How do you lock your vehicle? With the door, the key, the factory keyless, or with the Dei peice? How do you unlock it. Does it start ok? what year is your car? What exactly happens? Does it start, honk the horn, or just flash the light? Get me some answers and I'll do the best I can for ya. I install Dei myself and maybe I can help. Lee

My car is a 2003 grand am gt. The two instances when my car didn't start I unlocked it with my remote (aftermarket alarm and starter remote). When I tried to start my car nothing happened..well it made no effort to turn over..the only things that happened were the radio turned on and the security light started to flash. If you need any more info just ask..and btw thanks for all the help so far..this is very frustrating with a car that only has 13 000 km on it.

I will have to check my car color site when I get to work tommorrow but it sounds like they never hooked up the alarm disarm wire. Try something for me if you would. Lock the car as you always do and after about 15 min. start it with the remote then unlock it and see if you can drive away. Let me know. Lee

Well I checked the computer and there is no alarm disarm wire. How did you lock the car when this happened? Do you still have both factory keys or did they use one for the remote start? Lee

To the best of my knoledge GM's don't have a factory disarm wire. I'd say your problem is most likely in the passlock interface.

I recently did a Viper 790vx (alarm/remote start) in an 03 Cavalier and has the same passlock system as the new Grand Ams. I did have to interface with the pass lock system and everything worked fine. Maybe there's a cold solder joint where they interfaced with yours (just a guess).....it does hapen to the best of us... and judging on how the ne Grand Ams/cavaliers/sunfires don't have a nice underdash ( you have to almost stand on your head to do the install on these cars) the likelyhood of a bad solder joint may be more likely.

I'd go back and have the shop go over the install again, or have the system pulled and see how it operates then for a few days.

After re-reading your post I would have to say you may have a bad passlock bypass peice. Has it done it again? There is a little box that they put in to trick the car into thinking it has the key in it. There are two different kinds, one uses one of your factory keys and the other mimiks the code on its own. Did they take one of your keys? Good Luck, Lee

Since they have changed the bypass I haven't had a problem..but I haven't been driving my car very much either. Hopefully it was the problem though.
