I am sorry but I have to post this, Speed does not matter in life.... honestly for a street car my opinions are the faster you go the faster you no longer have a liscense or your life.
I have come to close to loosing my liscense trying to make a street rocket and deff enough friends. This is where I said FALK HP. Now all I work on is stlye... it is what matters and what is honestly beautiful for a street car! It is what will turn heads, call ppls eyes and such forth, it is not the power behind your car that will bring the attention of others to your car at a glimpse or the sound of it, it is only the looks, the style, the individuality brought out in your ride.

Just because you have more power doersn't mean you have to be a moron and street race in and out of traffic and do other illegal things.
Bolt on items from a magazine mean squat to me. Any clown with hand tools and a credit card can make thier car look different these days. Nothing special about that IMO.
Now someone that can select proper parts and build motor himself that runs amazing be it top end or 1/4 mile. Or that can properly set up a suspension or rebuild a transmission. These are the people that deserve more credit as these things require a knowledge, research, and skill.

A Carrot of peace.
You both make good points. But both want to spend money or work to impress others. Build it up or dress it up to impress your self. That way you are happy with you car. If others like what you did then you get to eat Both your Cake and Ice Cream.

Yes I also agree about the building of the motor + tranny and such forth for drag bu no need for that on the streets... once u get a car for the strip ready... it is a bad thing for street driving plus money pocket for keepin up the gas.
Also bout the stylin, no I do not mean to impress others because no matter what you do to your car visually... someone will like it or think it looks weird enough to turn heads :P I mean my first car was a 97 Nissan Altima which I imm. dropped the Omega kit on it and Universal Termniator Spoiler and it automatically drawed attention cause no one around here was doin work to altima... and I loved it... so forth here comes the GA... also the same but is gonna be alot tighter on my wallet so the things will come one way or another but it will all come together.

Yea, someone who can rebuild a Auto-tranny is a person to bow to.
My brother inlaw had a 68 ThunderBird. Had a 400 turbo tranny or something big like that in it. He wanted to tear it down for recyceling. I can honestly say that is the only piece of a auto that the more I tore it down the less I understood how it worked.
That thing had plates with groves cut all through it, some had bearing, some had springs. The deeper we got the more mystified I got on how it worked.

sounds to me alot like ricers......they leave their 110hp Civic stock, but make it look fast and all that..... and to them they are making it a "show car" as you describe......... and look at how much we all hate ricers......... now weather they act like their car is fast when it really isn't or whatever is a differnt story, but you understand what I'm saying.....
......... Although I also know what you mean by trying to make your daily driver a race car...... I am in the same boat, I want my car to be fast, but both massive lack of aftermarket, and the fact that I rely on it everyday, there is plenty of power for whatever I would need etc...... which is why, next spring if I have some extra cash laying around, I am really thinking about a project car to tinker with.......then I won't worry about making my car a speed demon, and it'll live a happy life as being a regular car that was treated nice.......... what am I thinking about? a '77-'79 Coupe DeVille with the 500 transplant, get rid of the smog stuff, then as if 400hp and 550ft lbs of tourqe, stock, wern't enough, let the fun begin :D........just gotta find one in general good shape, good tranny with a bad 425 or something, I have seen similar cars going for as little as $500....something has to be said for 8.2L 500cid American V8 in a fullsize, RWD, body on frame, almost 20 foot long car that has all the luxurys of......well, a Cadillac :D

Sorry.. but the feeling you get when you powerslide through wooded back-country roads (Note.. that was with my rwd S-15 pickup.. not my GA :D).. inches from losing it and careening into the closest oak is better than any bling-bling I could slap onto my car. Speed may get you in trouble.. but that's only if you harness it at the wrong time... otherwise there is no sensation like it.

I do not hate ricers, nor do I put them down. I want a honda civic, just because I think they look nice, not by the HP or whatever, I just like how they look w/ body kits, but ANYWAYS I believe if we all had the same thing and did the same things with our car, well it would be just plain boring as heck. Everyone wants to do things to their car to make it theirs and to spice it up some... individually

i agree. i've known of people that have extremely fast cars, but just by looking at the car and the way they drive it you wouldn't know the difference. if everyone had that opinion ferrari, porsche and the likes would go out of business. i do believe that if you are going to act like an idiot all the time you don't need a bunch of power at tap. and just because you have a powerful motor doesn't always mean you have to have a bunch of money for gas. gas consumption depends on how much of that power you use. i just restarted a potent small block (after my other one was stolen) for my truck

and just because its going to have gobs of power doesn't mean im going to abuse it. i too have come VERY close to losing my license. thats when you have to sail straight and be good. learn to control your right foot and you can have the best of both worlds, your license and a fast car.

Ever hear that it's what's on the inside that matters most? It's fine to have a car that looks cool, but he also has to preform. It's machine, not some kinda work of art. Yeah, there are guys who do customer body work, like Chip Foose, those cars are works of art, but comparing a civic with bolt on arftermarket parts to what Chip Foose does is like comparing paint with numbers to a Picasso.
Get a sweet paintjob (not one of those stupid multi-color things but something really cool with a nice fade effect or something). Get a kicking stereo, put air shocks in and have a car that can raise and lower on the fly. Do something less common and more impressive.
Wings serve one of three purposes. They lift something up, they keep something down, or they protect panties. Which kind is on YOUR car?

WOW....what a debate!!! It's all about what's important to you personally. Go for show, or go for speed......or do both. Just remember, it's your car...who cares if anyone else likes it as long as you do..

Heh..... the other day a friend asked if I could bring him home (we had last class together, and he isn't too far from me....anyway when I am alone I drive more hard then when other people are int he car, when other people are in the car, I drive very good..... so I was driving how i normally would, and we are tlaking about cars, I was saying, yeah, when I was picking a car, I wanted a big car, with a big V8 and I love Cadillac, so he was saying how his truck is going to be a V8, he was like, only thing is, is the gas, I said, well my car get's 18mpg around here and 26 on the highway, he was like this has a V8? I was like, uh, duh, so I said Well, you havn't witnessed the power of it, watch....so we were on a small back road going to his house, I stopped and nailed it, tires broke loose and we just shot forward, he was like woha, damn this thing has power........ how come you don't use it all the time, I said what's the point? why floor it when pulling onto a road, it uses more gas (since i have the fuel data center, I am always trying to strech my millage :) ) I said it's more rough on the engine and tranny, and just no point around here, he was like, yeah, I guess your right.
But like many of you were saying, where you can have a fast car, but just drive it like normal..... I get 18-18.5mpg around town if I drive easy, if I drive with a heavy foot, that goes down to even 16mpg, when people see, or hear me accelerate fast, they are just ver surprised, becuase it's not the car they woudl expect.
Latly I have been driving alot more conservative and overall much better, taking it easy, slowing up on turns etc..... and 2 days ago it was nice and sunny out, and I was just driving easy, and it was then I really respected my car for what it was, the ride was amazing, everything was very fluent etc..... sure it has alot of power, but the car was not designed to be drivin like a 'Vette......not to say I don't try to prtend it's one at times :D
Also about me speeding....there are ALOT of back roads here, where hardly anyone goes on, I never seen cops or anything, but I do not speed right now, becuase I am still on probation, and I do not need another speeding ticket, in 5 months or whatever, when, if I get a ticket, then I do not risk loosing my license, I am sure I'll be alittle more daring, but never do anything stupid, it's just fun throwing a big shark around the twisties or feel the pull and roar of the V8 when I accelerate hard etc....

Just so you know in advance I'm not argueing here, just pointing out a few things.

Not everyone can afford a Street Car and a Drag car, that is why you see alot of modded daily driven vehicles.
once u get a car for the strip ready... it is a bad thing for street driving plus money pocket for keepin up the gas.
Just because it's set up for a track (drag or auto-x) doesn't mean it sucks on the street. Adjustable shocks, panrod bars, traction bars, lift bars, 4 link rear ends, limited slip differentals, etc can all be adjusted and/or already totally suitalbe for street duty and can actually improve street driving if done correctly.
Yes, to make more power you need more fuel, but that doesn't make it a gas guzzler. Case in point alot of Buick Grand Nationals will turn mid to low 12 easy all day long and then drive to work the next day and knock down 30mpg. IIRC years ago during a Real Street Eliminator a Buick GN pulled down 34mpg during the fuel ecconomy test.
Modern fuel injection systems are great for added power and torque while still allowing decent fuel ecconomy and drivablity.

That's like my car, it ireally is like driving a boat, hit he gas the nose rises, hit the brakes the nose goes down, take a turn and the horizion tilts to some weird angles at times........ check out the picture when I was at LVD right when I started, look how high the nose is and low the back is, lol it was great......... although traction is always there, except if the whels are turned and I m pulling out, especally uphill.....

I'm in love with some of the roads around here.. central Pennsylvania has so many beautiful roads to toast your rubber on :D .. one of the reasons that right now I'm concentrating on brakes/suspension before I get into my exhaust/engine mods.. because on the back roads controlling what you have is what matters.. on the strip its all about letting loose ;)
