OK, so what makes a GT a GT-1? I had never heard of GT-1 until I joined this site. Is it an option package? How do you know which one you have?
thanks

The GT1 is an option package. In the U.S. it includes a 6-way power driver's seat, moonroof, upgraded stereo, and steering-wheel radio controls; it does not include leather. The Canadian GT1 package is different, and I think it does include leather, but I'm not sure. Maybe one of our frostback friends will enlighten us on what it includes up in the Great White North.

the funny thing is.. my se has 6 way adjustable driver seat.. hehehe. Generally the GT-1 comes with the leather. But again.. its kinda all the same. There isnt really any difference. Just kinda like the 99-02 SE's. There are three model trims ranging from the SE, SE-1, and SE-2. All pretty much the same.. though you kinda pick and chose as to what you want on each. So really there is no difference. Same thing aslo goes for the GAGT. SOme say V6HO on the side modling. Others say RAM AIR V6. Same thing.

The Canadian GT1 does have leather but doesn't have the moonroof or chrometech rims.
Pretty much the only thing a GT1 has that's not available as an option on a GT is the steering wheel controls for the radio.

We have just the GT and we have the controls on the steering wheel for the radio. Maybe GT-1's just have leather added?? Don't like leather - too hot in the summer - too cold in the winter!!

I'm pretty sure you have a GT1 if you have the steering wheel controls. It doesn't say so anywhere, the badging is the same and all. The window sticker might mention it.

Sorry John, I'm sure about this one. The steering wheel controls are only available standard on GT1 (and this year's SE2 for whatever reason) but are not an option on any other trim (http://www.pontiac.com/grandam/specs_interior.jsp).
As far as leather and sunroof go, the packages are different in Canada and in the U.S. In Canada, the sunroof only comes as an option, on all trim levels.
We get a standard engine block heater on all trim packages though :D

that maybe true for THIS YEARS models, but I guarantee if you take a look at previous years, the packages vary.... pretty much things became options, standard and available through out the year. I have a 2001 SE1, and my buddy has a 2000 SE1, ive got a 3400, and hes got the 2.4, yet he has the moonroof option and doesnt have the "ghetto" mirror

thanks for all the replies. It looks like I have a regular GT. I have cloth seats, manual drivers seat, and no steering wheel controls, but I do have a moonroof:D

The only model year brochure I don't have is the one for 2001 models, and all the rest I have (1999, 2000, 2002 and 2003) list the contents of the GT1 package as being the steering wheel radio controls, upgraded sound system, moonroof, and 6-way power driver's seat. Keep in mind I'm in Utah, so what I'm saying only applies to U.S. vehicles.
The moonroof and upgraded sound system are available on the standard GT, but not the steering wheel radio controls or the 6-way power seat.
Basically, if you have a U.S. model car and want to know if you have the GT1 package, the giveaways are the 6-way power driver's seat and the steering-wheel radio controls. If you don't have either of them, you have a standard GT.
