hey i just bought a 88 grand am se with the 2.0l turbo motor. the motor was rebuilt and the turbo is new... the best part... i bought it for 100 dollars:D
anywayz it also came with a 3 speed auto and was wondering about switching it to a five speed.
do i need to use the five speed tranny from a 2.0l turbo? or can i use one out of any 2.0l ohc....or... can i use one out of a 2.0l ohv??? im not good at *this tranny bolts up to this* kinda stuff.
and if im correct, i would also need a five speed computer?out of a turbo five speed?
anywayz thanks

I would think that a 5 speed from any 2.0 would bolt right on. I could be wrong, but the reason I say this is because the blocks should be the same, its just the top end that is changed. I also wouldn't think you would need a new computer cause in the older cars all the computer did was look at the air intake, exhaust, and control the fuel curve. Again I could be wrong but thats what I would think. Peace out, Lee
P.S. If I find out different I'll let you know.

im pretty sure that any 2.0 trany will bolt up, the question is how long will it last?
The only diffrence in the automatics should be gear ratios and shift points.
The stock trans. in a my car is a 5 speed muncie, i dont know if a non turbo i comes with it or not, if they do i would assume the gear ratios are diffrent
