I found a 96' 4dr. GT forsale with 97,000 miles on it. The car has a bra on the front which is hiding a cracked front bumper (pretty bad) and there is a side swipe mark on the rear bumper corner and bottom quarter panel. There is a crack in the side skirt (barely noticable) and it has a crack in the windsheild. Also There are some light scratches on the roof and hood which i think will buff out. How much do you think it would cost to have the front bumper fixed and the rear part painted? Do you think this is a good deal for $2,700? I'm definatley considering buying it as long as it has a clear title.

Why are you checking on all these cars and what we think if you bought a red 97gagt

I had jumped the gun and had my user name changed before i bought the car and i ended up not buying it. I don't know how it runs, but it is the 3100.

Here that car would not pass inspection. You would need a new windshield and a full bumper inspection. If the bumper is comprimized (sp?), then you need to replace it before they give you a license. That could be expensive, even second hand.

We don't have inspection here. So do you think it's worth it?

I called a buddy of mine and checked the books. He said that he would not pay more than $1,300 to $3,000 CANADIAN dollars for that same car in it's condition. We assumed you have air and auto, but no sun-roof.

Before buying have an inspection; with that much dammage you never know what is underneath.

I plan on having my mechanic check it out and run the VIN# to check the history on the car. I think that i might just be able to patch the front bumper and get it repainted along with the side of it.

first of all how does it runb and i honestly DO NOT think that is the right amount to sell that car for...i would have to say around $1200 (U.S.A. $$) there are over 4 things wrong with it...

-crack in a windshield (it will grow overtime TRUST ME)
-crackin side skirt
-scratches on roof & hood
-cracked front bumper
-side swipe marks

oh and how does that car run, is there any engine trouble or anything and make sure all the recalls on it are fixed!

Sounds like you have made up your mind. Just a thought: The car is worth only $900 to $2000 US dollars. $900 if it is in rough shape (which it is) to $2,000 in good shape (which it isn't). I would encourage you to reconsider unless the price is negotiable. I can't see the car, so I don't know what else is wrong with it, or right with it. How is the interior, the engine, the tires, suspension, front-end... this car sounds like it has been driven hard.

the thing i love about the '96-'98 GA is that you can get the GT trim, which is the highest trim level, with the 2.4 Twin Cam and 5spd.... the 5spd GT is really cool in my book, and if I was to ever get a GA, it would be a loaded '96-'98 GT w/ 2.4 and 5spd....... then mod the 2.4 out....

Always a good idea to buy a car that is in good shape, especially if it is 9 years old!

But more importantly, WHO IS THAT BABE IN YOUR AVATAR???

well i have a 96 4dr gt which cost 10k canadian, so i dunno, bout 6500 american i think, but mines in excellent condition, not a scratch or tear in interior, or anything, 100k kilometers, so as far as i'm concerned, 2700 which turns into about 6000 canadian doesn't seem like that bad of a deal, but i guess those scratches/dents/chips in the paint must outweight the pros, plus it has a fair amount of miles on it, is the 95 a 2dr or 4dr and how many clicks?

i dont drive my GM car anymore, differential blew up... and i wouldnt trust a 3100 with that many miles on it, but thats just me, just my experience with the motor, not a very good performer and the gas mileage isnt even that good, i like my 87 celica :]
