I have posted in here a couple of times I think with these problems. The car would often have to be turned over 10 to 15 times before it would finally catch on startup, and then the engine would rev way up before settling out. Then, idle would be rough and erratic. When I would put it in gear, idle would drop WAY down, sometimes I would need to give it gas to stop it from stalling. When I first started out, car would hesitate on normal (not hard) acceleration slowing back before finally picking up. Stopping shortly after (starting and driving out of a parking lot, stopping at the roadway) would sometimes result in stalling.
Anyhow, I am glad to say I have finally solved all of these problems. The vaccume line running to the PCV was sitting against a bolt in the EGR and had a nice hole melted in the side of it causing quite a severe vaccume leak. I had noticed the tell tale vaccume leak sound previously, but my altenator makes a similar sound and on inspection I couldn't find the source of the leak, and to be honest I didn't think a vaccume leak could be responsible for everything that I was experiancing. I guess it was! Anyhow, pleased to announce that the problem is resolved. Finally.
