Hey guys, i'll let you know up front, this isn't about a ga, but i love this forum cuz everyone knows so much about cars in general, so here goes

I just picked up a 92 saturn 1.9L SOHC, it's a manual, which is why i got it, hehe, but i'm getting a knock out of the engine, all the time, naturally speeds up when i rev the engine. I changed, plugs, wires, going to get an oil change tomorrow, then going to put some slick 50 in it, because it's got 136k, i hope this isn't a valve tick, but if it is, what do you guys think the ballpark is on that?? THanks a lot for answering this even though it's not about Ga's, i still have my 99, but i needed a beater car to go to work with, so i can keep my GA in top shape.

oh yeah, forgot to add, i'm getting jumping when i'm changing gears and the overall power is kinda gone, i was thinking ignition coils about that, after i changed the plugs and wires, seemed to regain power, but then lost it again.

Are you sure the knocking is coming from the engine and not the transmission? How is it at idle?

It is knocking right from the moment i turn the car on, it sounds like it's coming from the left side if you're looking under the hood, haven't tried to pinpoint yet, if it's even possible...

Sounds like a rod or crank bearing is bad to me

If it was in the valve train the engine would have a skip or missfire. Sounds more like lower end.

if it is a rod or crank bearing, how can i get that replaced and how much do you think it should be, ball park. Update: I just got back from getting the oil change done, of course sound is still there. The car is accelerating better, and shifting a bit nicer. GUESS WHAT? I went to put some fuel injection cleaner in this morning, and there was no gas cap!!!! That would explain things. i put some 89 plus in the car as well, filled it up, so that maybe it'll help out some. Thanks everyone for the ideas. Any more ideas would be so greatly welcome cuz i wanna get this car runnin' nice, my little stick beater...lol
