Hey I was wondering if anyone has heard of or seen this problem themself. When I first start the car it seems to idle about 1000RPM. But after driving around a short bit the idle speed will then go back to the normal 6-700ish. I was wondering if anyone had any clue as to what would cause this, or if this is normal and maybe just edged up slightly from its usual and thats why I noticed it now.
Thanks for the help,
Recent maintence includes Coolant fluid change, Spark Plugs & Wires, and a new Acc. Belt

When I first start mine it idles at 900-1000 RPM for about a minute then dropd to 6-700 RPM. I don't think anything is strange here.

Yeah I was thinking 1000 was just a tid higher than I remember before. Probably just being stupid or something, I recently started doing more and more maintence to the car myself instead of paying places to do it so been a little more worried lately that any odd things that pop up are my fault or something....

Perfectly normal, I've never been in a car that doesn't do that. :)

... exactly, the computer is idling the car up until the engine gets "up to temperature" ... similar to how a choke used to work :)

Pull your IAC off the TBI.
Use a dirty tooth brush to clean the plunger and around the spring. Don't pull or push the thing in or out.
There are 4 pins.
Pick either ends and put a Vohm meter. The resitance should be about the same on the other two pins. If you get no reading. It is toast. Put the little puppy back on.
That is what controls the idle.

mine idles no higher than 750 after startup, then it goes down to 600-650 even. stays at 750 with the a/c on
right after i got the car (before i replaced the battery) it jumped to 1200 and then settled at 600-650 relatively quickly, but that was from a weak battery and i guess the car needed to compensate.

Well another thing you might want to check if your problem gets worse is the TPS (throttle postioning sensor). Check the voltage at the sensor its self, you'll have to check on the Postive 12 volt and the data cord color but you basicly you back probe the data cord and read the voltage off of a DVOM, at WOT you should read about 12 V at closed throttle you should read 0v or close to it. slowly open the throttle with the DVOM connected to the TPS and watch the voltage it shoud slowly climb and if it ever falls then you have TPS issuses, for example if your at 9.7 volts and your still opening and it falls to 5 volts you have tps issues. you need to do this VERY slowly becuase sometimes its hard to see. its also nice to have another person help you. also does you car ever fall on its face during exceleration?

I don't think there is a problem here...
My 2004 Grand Am with 63,000 KMs on it idles at 1,500 RPM on start up, then after a minute will jump down to 1,300 RPM and go down slowly as it warms up.
I ended up breaking the Idle Air Control Motor while trying to grease it up with sillicone since I thought it was sticking. I replaced it with a new one from the dealer and got the same result after doing a re-learn.
