Dude that is so cool. What materials did you use and what is the turbo out of. Its about time someone made a sleeper.

Materials are as follows:

Mandrel bent exhaust pipe sections from JC Whitney. Various bends about $100 or so worth of pipe, Custom Machined Flange for turbo $30 from local machine shop, K&N filter $35, Misc. welding labor $75, stainless steel braided oil line $35, High temp oil drain hose and coolant lines. Oil drain uses the oil level sensor hole that way you don't have to pull the oil pan and drill a hole. I just took out the oil level sensor and threaded an adapter into the hole. I think I had to connect the two wires to the sensor with a resistor to keep the Check engine light from turning on. You won't be notified of low oil, but if you have a turbocharged car, you should be checking that on a regular basis anyway :) .

Oil feed tee's off the oil pressure switch on the pass side of engine.

Turbo is a junkyard version from a dodge 4 cyl. I think you could use as large a turbo as what comes on the '84-'87 Buick GN's as well without trouble. One nice thing about the Dodge turbo is that it is found on Saab's as well which have a slightly angled compressor housing outlet that I also used.

The owner didn't want to spend the $$ on a mandrel bent inlet pipe, so there is probably more HP available in a smoother bend in this area.

Alex: We're running around 7 psi on the turbo... Never had it dyno'ed so I have no power numbers... Runs Awesome though!

Bluez: Yep, royal pain in the arse! All the piping was made from Mandrel bent sections available through JC Whitney. Cut, fit, and welded together to make what you see in the pics. The only pipe that wasn't mandrel bent was the inlet pipe. The owner was just about tapped out of cash at the time so we did the cheapie on the inlet pipe to the MAF sensor.

That's a really neat job. What's the % increase on the horsepower from a mod like that ? Does it have auto-Tranny ?

It does have an automatic transmission... IMO, there is no other way to have a turbo car! Probably comes from my obsession with Buick Grand Nationals...

Not sure what the HP increase is, but thinking out loud 15 psi boost is one increase in atmospheric pressure... One could assume that 15 psi could double HP as long as enough fuel was supplied. So at 7 psi, you could guess maybe 50%? I'm not real sure here on this one...

I can tell you this is one of the fastest grand am's I've ever seen. Wouldn't feel bad about running it up against a 'stang (wife has a stock '96 GT and the GA is faster!). Hope that helps!
