Get some engine degreaser and go to town on it. Cover up your electronic components, alt, fuse box, distributer thingie....then follow the directions on it. GUNK makes some good stuff for this. Also a old toothbrush or wire brush is good for getting some tough stones and grime out of little areas. Just becareful and it will be fine. Use as little water as possible when you rinse it and don't use a hard spray. I use the "shower" setting on my gun for it. After you remove all the coverings, start the car and let it run for about 15-30 minutes to dry it. It will steam and smell a bit bad, but it will be ok. Usually looks great afterward! Good luck!

http://aed.homeip.net/photopost/data/19626015engine.jpg
my only changes are: a raim air shroud, painted valve cover black, took red electrical tape off top of my CAI, and now theres a red neon light shining in there.

Here is a quick photo of our engine. Not the cleanest but you get the idea.
Items shown are MSD wires, CAI from N-Body intakes/Red99GAGT, Next Leval Strut Bar, and if you look real close you can see the Casper TPSE.
http://www.n-body.net/registry/y2kgagt/y2kgagtmotor.jpg
A buddy that I ride with has a bead blasting cabinet and a powdered coater so if I can convince the wife I'd like to powder coat the upper intake plenum 'almost chrome' to make it look like polished aluminum and the front valve cover bright red.

That side shot looks sweet. Looks almost like an annodized paint.
Jeez I didn't realize the 3100 and 3400 looked so similar. I realize the 3400 is just a bored over 3100 but dang!!

what kind of paint would you use for that stuff
Peyman
11-18-2003, 06:28 PM
high degree engine enamel (spray paint)....500 degrees or 1200 degrees work fine....u can buy it from autozone....
03MetGrnGT
11-18-2003, 07:16 PM
Actually, for my airbox and fuse cover I used the same paint that i used on my interior, the heat hasn't bothered it or faded the color at all, I just didn't clear coat it, instead I put a few thick layers on and it turned out awesome...
