Would there be any way to drop a 3.4L into a 97?

You can put a 3400 into a '97, not too big of a deal either I don't think. 95-GT put one in his 95. I'm not positive if he's on this site or just on grandamgt.com. Look for him and send him a PM.

I did the swap as well, and it is really not hard, just a few parts to swap over and such.

If one were to sell their existing engine, and buy a 3400 or something how much difference would it probably be in cost?

since you do have a 2.4L it actually would probably be easier to swap in a 2.3HO motor considering the model year of your car..

I'll let you know in a few months how my swap goes. I'm going to be going to Indiana in a week or so (schedule permitting) to pick up a 3400 with only 20k on it. Over the winter I'll be tweaking it, cleaning and detailing it getting it ready for its introduction with my 95 GT.. and ultimately some track time as well :D

Ok well whats one of the nicer, decently high power 6 cylinder engines that works with this car?

don't need any more 4 cylinder pooper :(

The only "easy" V6 swap would be a 3100 or 3400...if you had a 3100 I would say just switch it over to a 3400....but6 if you have the TC, then honestly I woudln't waste time/money on going to a V6..... not like these V6's make ALOT more power then the 4..... what I would do is just spend all the money you would on an engine, then to have it installed and all that and just mod out the TC, you can really do alot to them.....plus, only the 2.4 came with the 5spd, so if you have a 5spd now, great, if not, get one of those, then you'll really be set....

Nightwolf, I couldn't agree with you more. You can SC your 2.4TC for $2000US from GM and make way more power than the 3400. You'll make 190hp at the flywheel versus 170 with the 3400 - and that's without other mods and basic bolt-ons. Plus there is more of an aftermarket for the 2.4 versus the 3400 too, including cam swaps.
I have the Ecotec with a 5spd. and I'm just going nuts waiting for the SC from GM-to keep my warranty. I love my Ecotec but sometimes I wish I had my old 1999 Z24 - I'd be SC'd for sure by now.

the 3.5 engine is actually smaller in size. I dont know if its easier to swap to it but its smaller looking.

btw is it possible to swap in a v8 into a ga like a camaro/firebird engine and actually leaving the hood on?
