View Full Version : Is it worth is?
The other day I measured my exhaust and it is about 2 inches. Would it be worth it to to change the whole exhaust or just go ahead and use it and put the high flow cat and muffler on. As far as I know it is the original exhaust on the car.
Thanks
Clint
Or just make the exhaust system a little bit bigger with the performance muffler and cat

A while back I was looking around at some places to ge a custom bent dual exhaust (so I can use other mufflers than factory) They were talking about using 2 1/4" pipe from the cat back.
I had a friend who had 2 1/2" pipes on his Honda Prelude, and he said it was the worst mistake he ever made. Lost more performance with it then he made. Plus it was super loud. I know it a totally different car then a grand am, so maybe 2.5" would be good. Before you do anything, I'd consult an exhaust speacialist first.
Best of luck to you and keep us posted!

all you should do is chop off the cat put on a straight pipe, then get a performance muffler !!!! at most ittle cost you 120 $ SO DO IT !!!!! I DID , an i also think that was the best thing i have done to my car :D
I can't cut the cat off because Texas is starting to do some pollution laws.

well i think it would be fine to run 2-1/4 exhaust pipe. I am considering dropping back from 2-1/2 to 2-1/4. Like i said in another post i had 2-1/2 stainless steel pipe all the way back so i would be trading my stainless pipe in for the 2-1/4 stuff. One thing some people don't relize is that 4 cylinder engines require some back pressure to run correctly so if you put on a huge pipe you'll lose that back pressure. Consult a muffler shop about it and see what they have to say. Also check out the old guys section here. Hope this helps you out

I know 2 1/4 would be fine, Because I have 2 1/4 all the way from the exhaust manifold, and I put a magnaflow muffler. Runs just fine, and it has a nice sound to it. Eventually I am going to get a high flow cat, and also the header.

I just cant believe how much money people spend on exhaust:???: . My exhaust consist of original exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold, to a straight pipe where the cat converter used to be( $ 38) , an i chopped off my muffler an put on a OBX Racing muffler ( $ 70 ) from a friend. All together it cost me $108.:D also i just love the sound of it :D it is so loud !!! but it has a nice tone to it:D an the hp gains i recieved from it are outstanding !!! It really i mean really woke my motor up:D I also chopped off the old air cleaner so you can see the air filter all around. Doing that also improved hp, an sound comming from the engin.
