i have 2 12 inch 2003 comp cvrs and they sound great. i agree that they arent really up there, but they have the potential to pound with providing more than decent sound quality for a great price. but if you're a SERIOUS sq freak (like haunz supposedly), then i would lean toward looking elsewhere.

My brother has a 12 Comp VR in his truck and it sounds good for what he was looking for, clean sound descent bass. I have a 15 Solo Baric and it is about all that I need I know there are better subs out there but my thinking is why do I need more when what I have can be heard over a half mile away. But Comp VR's are good clean bass for the price IMO.

You got me wrong homeboy... it's all about good sounding music...

But I don't care how 'good' it sounds unless it's got some serious volume to boot.... :D

Rockford does make a real good product, but so does alpine and kicker and a handful of others. i have a kicker 12" square in my truck and a 18" comp vr in my girlfriends ga. neither one of them are the best speaker on the market, but both will turn heads. all these other companies make good speakers, but kicker makes the baddest of them all....the new 18" Square X. it handles 5000 watts rms and 10000 peak. what rockford or alpine will do that?

matts, im not sure why you brought this back from the dead, but for argument sake ill disagree with you ont he fosgate issue. yes, they had made good stuff, and yes their top of the line stuff (hard to find) is decent, but 90% of thier line is total crap.

if you say bigger is better then more power to you, but those large subs (18" esp.) suck way too much power, and are sloppy as hell. yea theyll pound liek no other, but if you want accuracy then 18s are not the way to go.

kicker is over rated. their round solobarics were so freakin awesome, i dunno what came over them to cause em to change to the crappy square subs. yes they are popular, and yes they are loud, but they sound like crap (IMO). find an old solobaric and youre in business.

i can agree with you about the 18 not having the best sound quality, but i cant agree with you about the squares. i keep the 18 turned down for normal music listening. (until i have to show off to someone that thinks they have something bad) i have heard squares that sounded like a wet fart in the shower, but i have also heard some that sound good. a big factor is what you use for mids and highs. you can have the best sounding subwoofer in the industry but when its teamed with crappy mids and highs it sounds horrible. same holds true vice versa. you can have extremely clear highs and have a cheap sub for a little bass you can feel and it sounds decent. i can also agree with the kicker's being a little overrated
