View Full Version : Intake manifold questions

Alrighty then.

First question: How good is are the Doctor speed intake manifolds??

Second question: How hard is it to install the upper intake manifold? Could i do it myself.

Third: If i wanted to get upper and lower intake manifold how many hours of labor would it be for a mechanic to install? I wouldn't think it would be too much time, but just a shot in the dark.

I cant answer your first ? but on the install its easy if you know how to operate a wrench i really wouldnt pay anyone to do it. I could even scan you a few pgs from chiltons to show you how to do it. just let me know.

Excellent, I ordered both the UIM and LIM from DS and the porting is awesome. Compare it to a stock one and you can really see a difference. I don't have a camera so unfortunately I cannot take pics. I do not have them on my car yet, however.

My car has a intake manifold gasket leak and the guy at Firestone said it would take about 6 hours (and $440 for labor) to do the work because you have to pretty much take apart the whole top of the motor to get to the lower intake manifold.

So I figured if It's going to cost that much and It's all going to be taken apart anyway I might as well save my self some money in the future and just buy myself a ported upper & lower IM from RSM racing,what the hell. :bananna:

Yes, absolutely. A CAI's biggest restriction besides a small throttle body is the intake manifold. It tries to put all that air into your engine, only to get backed up because of the small ports on OEM manifolds. A good porting of the manifold will most definately compliment the CAI.
