I was recently searching for stuff for the 2.5l. I came across this one Fiero site an it said if you plug the tube comming from the egr valve it will give you better throttle response. Iam gonna try this tomorrow.:D

p.s. here is the site http://www.k12.nf.ca/gc/Staff/Teachers/Crummey/fiero/modestduke.htm

THIS SITE WILL SHOW YOU HOW TO BUILD A 120HP IRON DUKE !!!!!!! :D CHECK IT OUT !!!!

I know that site says the ecm dosent know it has been done, but you watch, your O2 sensor will try to compensate for egr usage that is not taking place.

How did that EGR mod work for you? Any Problems with it yet?

I read overthat entire site and saw a few things that seemed interesting. One thing in particular was they say not to run Platinum plugs. Well I've been running them for about 3 year now and when I changed my coil packs and vlave cover gaskit I pulledthe plugs and after 3 years they still looked absolutely brand new...new enough I could probably box them up, say they were never used and return them new. Also compared to "normal" plugs they definately worked alot better.

ok, I'm fairly new to these engine types so, anyone care to enlighten me on what an EGR is please?

Also, any help on replacing the Oxygen sensor would be great.

TIA,

It stands for Emission Gas Regulator or something like that. It monitors the emissions system. My line has been clogged for about a year now - and it seems to have given me worse throttle response. But, my car is a little newer.

No, the EGR stands for Exhaust Gas Recirculation. Exhaust gas is routed back into the combustion chamber because the exhausted air is much hotter than the intake air. By sending warmer gas into the combustion chamber, the air/fuel mix does not have to do as much work to heat up, and your engine runs more efficiently

also, the unburnt fuel in the exhaust is used rather than exiting through the exhaust. A good removal and cleaning of the egr take about 5 mins, a 12 mm wrench, a new gasket and a can of carb clean, get that pintle moving nicely ans see the better fuel efficiency and smothed idle. Also the O2 sensor is the eaist part on your car to replace. On the exhaust manifold in the front of the engine, there is a round sensor with one wire coming off it. Disconnect the wire at the plug. and use a 7/8 inch wrench to remove the sensor. Put the 02 safe antisieze on the threads of the new sensor and screw it in, tighten it to germen torque specs. (guden-tight) and then reconect the wire. all is good.

the egr is right behind the valve cover
it looks like a round disk kinda with a tube comming from it
although plugging this egr valve will cause problems down the road
hope this helps, if you need help just ask and i will try to help you out

take off the air cleaner and you will find the egr between the throttle bodie and the valve cover gasket. its held on by two bolts.

i wouldnmt reccomend doing this to any car . im suprised it didnt throw off a code but im sure it will and also u are messing with the cumbustion chamber by doing this it is a ll just going to heat upm and start to blow things. the egr cools down the cumbustion chamber which in effect your not doing .

Thanks for the location details. I'm gonna take it out to clean it first, sounds like that might help with my gas consumption issues......still not too sure about the plugging it though!!

BTW, any tips on Rad removal on this bad boy as well????

The egr does not cool the engine, in fact it recirculates hot exhaust gasses back into the middle cylinders. Also on the 2.5 the egr is strictly vaccume operated and does not set a code directly. The codes will be set when the computer is trying to correct the a/f mix thinking the egr is functioning.
