Cylinder Misfiring

I have had the service engine light (SES) come on intermittently. The code revealed CYLINDER #6 MISFIRE. I recently changed the cables, put in new sparks, new ignition coil. The SES light went away for a couple months but is back again. :O
Was just wondering if a batch of bad gas can trigger the SES light. The SES light came on last week and remained on till a couple days ago ... then gone. Have driven it the last 2 days with no SES coming back on. Was beginning to think it might be the fuel injector!!!! If it is, wouldn't the light be on constantly and not intermittently?

The SES light means 'Service Engine Soon'.

It is triggered by MANY things, and may be anything from a one-time glitch to a significant problem.

Go to AutoZone/PepBoys/Checker and have them scan the OBDII for stored codes. They do this for free.

Proceed from what the codes say; it might be an injector but it's fruitless to speculate.

I had my mechanic pull the code and it said CYLINDER #6 MISFIRE. This is why I was thinking it might be the injector.

umm... is #6 misfiring, you wouldnt hear it, and feel it, the motor will sound kinna like a harley :]

You can also walk around behind your car when it's running. Put your hand in the exhaust stream coming out the pipe. With every fire of the motor a puff of wind comes out the exhaust pipe. It should be a constant beat. If it is missing a beat that miss is a missfire.

Thanks 4kQuad! That was very useful ... it is not a stedy beat it actually is skipping ... so I guess I have to replace the injector!! Out of the exhaust I can actually hear it skip a beat. No power in the acceleration ... an awful feeling!!!! Even at idle it feels like its going to stall but doesn't!!! Won't be long though, will try to get it replaced within the next few days.
