tranny fluid

Alrighty ppl, i have a 94 ga se w/2.3 quad 4, 5 speed, and i am trying to figure out what kind of tranny fluid in need to get! I know that there is dextron (sp.?) and some other kind, but when i go to a parts store they look up the needed fluid and they tell me that i have to go to a pontiac dealer and get a special GM fluid. Do i have to do this or can i use one of the other two (mentioned above) fluids? How often should i be changing this fluid? Thanks in advance for your help!!!!!!

What you need is GM syncromesh fluid. Only can be bought at the dealer. :(

Generally fluid doesn't require maintenance in a manual tranny. It should be checked and if it stays up to level and looks OK you should be fine AFAIK.
