My tranny is going out slowly but surely as I type this. I was wondering if a new GA GT trans would fit in an older GA GT. With very little or no modifications needed to fit. I know the newer ones have better gearing for acceleration. That's what I want. Some one pleeeeeeeeese let me know soon. I can go to a wreaking yard to pick one up if that's the case.

Actually the 4T60E has better gearing, either 3.33 or 3.42, compared to 3.29 not to mention can hold more power than the 45E. IMO rebuild the 60

My 4T60E on my '94 went out about two years ago. $2,100 to have it completely rebuilt. Now I run B&M Synthetic Trick Shift and pay close attention to the fluid level. Also installed a tranny cooler with a manually operated fan. Only really need the fan in the summer but I don't want to have to shell out that kinda money again.

that's what i got quoted.....1450 to 2500 bucks to get it done. that's with reprogramming for firmer shifts and higher rpm shifting. i'm thinking of doing that also.

You are right......the 60 does have better gearing....3.43 compared to the 45's 3.29. I'm going to rebuild the 60 :D
