things I learned from years of streetracing. Many peoples cars can run the times, but people dont drive them good enough to get those times.
So dont bother investing too much into mods, just go out and race. But if you want to go really fast then go all out.:agree:

Simply put.. improve your racing habits and you could probably beat your buddy. Like ive have stated many times before. Your launch in your most important thing to improve. More than anything ive won races simply because the guys dont know how to launch. Heres a tip. Drive around town. Listen to and just feel your car. Go and do quick launches, nothing too big, but just run up your first gear. Then work on making your wheels not spin at the start. Then work on your shifting. Some cars work by just putting them in drive and going. GA's of auto's tend to go better while in 3rd or starting in 2nd and shifting to 3rd just before your tranny shifts out of its first gear. I will race any car up to a 15 second car. My GA shoudl run 16's stock. Under proper conditions, you can gain a second on a car just off the launch. As for yoru suggestions. Heres my little tidbit. First and generally all that your looking at is airflow. So get a CAI, and a cat-back exhaust. Those two together will give you close to 18 WHP. If you wanna go on from there, get your chip and yoru P&P of your manifolds. If you want more? go with some headers and a larger TB. After that, well put it this way, you get all that stuff and unless your grandma is driving your car and she doesnt know where the gas is, you will win.
Another thing that will help, and I know it has been mentioned before, but people don't think of it, is reduce as much weight as you can before you go racing. Get all the junk out of your trunk. Remove the crap from your back-seat. When you do go to race, don't have a full tank of gas.
Also make sure your tires are inflated properly too, so you get max traction and less rolling resistance. I'm sure somebody who has been successful in drags can give more info on this.
Just remember, if you really want serious HP you will have to spend serious $. But you can optimize what you have.

So very true BBT. Just gettin rid of your jack and spare tire in the back can save you around 100 lbs. which is nearly .2 seconds at the track, depending on conditions.

get a upgrade ecu from digital horse power run 92 oct. get intake full exhaust Headers, highflow cat, cat back, underdrive pulley and TB and roast him.
I gasket matched my upper and lower intakes and polished them. it helped a little but i dont know about 10HP it just helped flow a little better. i ran a 16.8 1/4 on 87oct. 3/4 tank. then i did the manifold new delco plugs and 89oct. with 1/2 tank and ran a 16.5 1/4 now i dont know if it was everything or the gas or the manifold. If you race the 1/4 leave your car in the lowest gear for the 1/4 speed for best results. i left mine in 2nd that can go to 90mph. but what ever works for you. also i have a 96 3100 with 110k on it so yours will run a lot better.

actually you want to lower tire pressure in the front if you are going to spin them. Rev to 2 G while holding brake and let go of brake and stomp gas. or hold e-brake before line.
ok lower pressure to like 30psi so you don't blow them up. The tire pressure will increase when you spin the tires because they get hot.

A stock Impala SS with a good driver can run a 15.0 flat all day. You are gonna need some mods to beat him. Go with full CAI and full exhaust system then a DHP chip and do so weight reductions to the car and you might be able to beat him.

Yeah the 1996 Impala SS came with the LT1

96 LT1? i think 15 flat on that sounds pretty good. with a good driver that is. last LT1 vette had like 300- 320 hp in the 96 model. but that probly down to like 270 or what ever for the ImpalaSS. still, 270 is pretty good for a 96, tho it a big car.

the new impala/monte carlo ss+ (s/c'd) cars are geared like puke. First gear is mean, but second the car seriously about falls on its face. A friend and I went to test drive one and we were not impressed. The GTP we test drove after was like a completely different car. Granted a small weight difference, the gearing in the GTP was much better (3.29 to the 2.93 on the monte/impala)

yea. i read some where that the tranny all meesed up b/c it cant handle the full power, so it cuts back the power making it a lil slower. cant remember what i saw that in.
