hey guys question for you. I have a 02 grand am gt. Right now i have 225/40/18 kumho excta 712's tires on my car. I love the traction that they give me but the sidewall is just to thin. I have already had to replace 2 of the tires, cause i hit pot holoes and it caused bulges in the side walls that were really bad. Do any of you have 225/45/18 on your grand am? if so what brand tire and is your car lowered or not? mine is lowered. any advice would be greatly apprieciated.

thanks.

The 225/40R18 have a 0.2" larger diameter, a difference of 0.9% over stock.

225/45R18 have a 1.1" larger diameter, a difference of 4.5% over stock. You're going to notice that in speedo accuracy, speed off the line, etc.

In order to stay close to the stock diameter, you'd have to go with a 195/45R18.

The problem is this: You cannot co to a taller tire on the same size rim withour affecting both the speedometer and accelleration. If the sidewall is too thin, the only real option is to step down to 17" or even 16" rims. A 225/45R17 would be your closest match. Of course, if you don't care about speedo accuracy or the performance of your car, by all means, a larger tire may help you.

The other option is to avoid roads littered with potholes. :(

I have a set of 225/40/R-18's on mine and it did so little to the ride height the speedometer was not effect... at least not enough to get one pulled over

i dont see where a 225-45-18 would be that big of a deal, it would throw ur speedo off and the accelartion but it well save u from blowing out tires alittle better, plus my car which is a old 95 Grand Am can take a 225-40-18 and the stock size is 195-95-15. i belive ur stock tire size would be either a 215-60-15 or 225-50-16 so ur car can handle the bigger tire, u might be able to go with a 235-45-18

I had 235/40/18's on my 18x8 rims. Did 235 instead of 225 to get some more sidewall to protect the rim, plus filled up the wheel well nicer. Car is lowered w/ H&R springs, everything fits fine.
