Hi all,

I'm having some issues with my 91 2.5 tec 4. I have just put in new plugs, battery and leads. Also did a coolant flush and oil change but have this rough idle going on.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

TIA,

C

you said you replaced the plugs, did you replace the plug wires?
it could also be your throttle position sensor, map sensor, idle air control valve etc , even a dirty fuel filter can cause probs

what have you totally done to the engine as far as a tune up ? besides plugs
another thing is if the spark plugs are not properly gapped this could happen too

let us know whats all been done and how long this has been going on or when it started so myself or one of the other 2.5 owners can help you out :)

also if you have any questions don't be afraid to pm me or if you have aol i am usually on as niteshadow82
thanks,Jr

Thanks for your response Nite. I did indeed replace the plug leads as well. The spark gap was fine. I haven't really done much else in the way of a tune up apart from the stuff listed. I want to get her running as smooth as I can cuz I need her for about another 2 years.

The problem is that she's been sitting in a damp garage for the past 8 months so, I know that's not done her much good. I think I need to get a Haynes manual or something like that so I can locate the other things you mentioned and check them out.

BTW, had a brief SES light last night.......turned itself off after about 5 mins.

ok cool
the check engine light came on then ?
what you need to do is get the codes from it
what you do is there is a small black rectangle piece right below the steering colum
take a flat bladed screw driver or something that you can pry it off with
you'll see a plug when you remove the plastic piece
on the upper right end of that plug you'll see two metal prongs in there
all you have to do is take a paper clip and make a C out of it and take each end and stick one in the closest to the outer edge of the plug and then right next to the one you just stuck in there

now remember this for the upper right hand corner of that black plug

once you did this just turn the key to the on position right before you would start the car .. so you'll see your brake light ,temp light (not sure if you have the cluster with the all the gauges or just the standard one with just fuel, temp and speedo) light up (you'll know what i mean
your SES light or check engine light will flash

it will do a code 12..three times before throwing any codes and if it does throw a code 12 for a fourth time there are no codes found by the computer
for code twelve it will flash once......pause and then flash twice right away
this is code 12

for any other codes (IE 34 it will flash three times( blink..blink..blink...............and four times.blink..blink..blink..blink..
wait til you see code twelve again
once you see the code 12 this means that is the end of any codes
so make sure you count how many times the light flashes
let me know if this helps you at all
