i've got a couple of great ideas using gm parts, that would be the cheapest route. yet, i feel there will be a totally reworked one i'm constructing. on the olds "A" bodys with the 3300, without abs, the factory air cleaner attaches to a mounting point on the transmission. since the ga's are blessed with plenty of room on that side of the car, i was planning to retrofit a 88 olds calais, quad 4 air cleaner set up, but i like simplicity. i have a couple of pipe bends in mind, the final one i'll show you guys when done. stay tuned.......:spidey:

i went and bought some pcv piping for the protype today. i'm comtemplating which way to face the air filter. the a/c cooling fan is on that side of the car. i don't want to use an open element k&n style, because the running colling fan may disrupt the engine idle when it's on. stay tuned. the progress continues.......

today, i came across something interesting. due to the fact i had a spare throttle body to our beloved engine, i decided to remove the screen to get a better look inside. once opened up i saw that out nice three inch pipe, (which seems to be standard issue on c.a.i kits) would fit over the throttle body opening, but the actual port where the air flows through is about 2 to max 2 1/4 '' wide. to me, it's a good thing these cars don't come stick shift. the opening would possibly limit some serious air flow. the smaller hole however will be good to keep the throttle response up, but could cause a lack of breathing at higher rpm. yet, i realized when i looked at the throttle body further, the portion where the hose would connect (a.k.a mass air flow housing)looks exactly like the mass air flow housing on the early 5.0 mustangs. i know this because, i play with a lot of those cars too. i concluded if this opening could feed a 302 cubic inch motor, our 204 cubic in should be fine....the progress contines

It would be great to have one for our 3300 not to hard to make one but just need the space .Iseen one on car domain and this is what he told me "my intake runs forward then down almost paralell to the radiator then takes a hard 90 toward the driver side... filter sits just infront of the wheel well and is still protected by plenty of plastic.thanks for the question"

i have some pictures i want to post, but how do i reduce them down to fix on here?

there is hardly any need for the 90 degree bend except going into the throttle body. the must you'll need is a 45 degree bend at the bottom

sorry, i haven't finished the cold air kit yet. i drive around with the pieces in my mustang . i have to get a coupler for the throttle body to the first pipe. right now i have bee too wrapped up in fixing my friends cars, and repairing the water leak in the grand am, but that water leak ordeal is over!!!! phew!!!. i'll get back on it. the main idea stays fesh in my mind. at the moment, i'm using a red toucan air filter. i may change that out later. stay tuned

pics of the whole thing will be coming shortly. i have to pick up a coupler to the throttle body. i also am using the olds ciera 3300 air cleaner bracket to the transmission, as a bracket to hold my cold air. it's almost finished.... stay tuned

just came back from lowe's today. i finally found a coupler that will mate to the throttle body and the pipe i'm using. stay tuned.......

ahhhhhh!!!! the coupler fit one end of the pipe, but won't fit over the throttle body. off to lowes.......again.

progress is going well. i just haven't had the time to finalize the finished prototype.
i had to get a different clamp at lowes hardaware store. the problem is that the throttle body is like 3 1/4 and the pipe i'm using is 3 inch. i couldn't find a coupler that looked decent enough toi fit over both. further investigation of the pipe, the 3" opening is a bit SMALLER?
hopefully today i'll take off the existing air cleaner so i can line up the pipe where i want it to go. i have the mounting bracket from an olds ciera that i plan to incorparate into mouting the unit. filter choices, i'll leave up to one's taste.
i was on the k&n filter website. they have speciality filters with bends on the filter. so this cold air induction kit could really come out nice. i'm planning to run the filter down near the windshield washer bottle. it'll be far enough away from the cooling fan operation, away from the radiating heat of the motor. yet, not as high in the engine compartment so that it'll be a warm air induction. (heat rises), then the hood is closed, making a nice little oven.
i'm going for simplicity, yet function. the only thing that concerns me, since i had a spare mass air flow/throttle body housing. the "actual" opening of the mass air sensor is starting to concern me. the opening is max 2", if that. i think this is where the car is getting "choked" off for air at top end. the small opening is good for throttle response and low end torque, but is going to be a limiting factor on some breathing at some point. i'll figure something out. stay tuned....:spidey:

Have you finished this yet? I am going over my options right now and it looks like you put the most time and effort in so far and wonder id you have any pics of the completed project. Thanks

ladies and gents......
sorry i haven't gotten back to you guys with the cold air induction set up yet. things are progressing though.
i have stumbled across some interesting info though pertaining to to cold air induction systems that have confirmed some of my thoughts.
if you you go to the AEM website. there is a new V2 intake system. some of the theories here, i had in my mind about my cold air induction system. RUNNER / TUBE LENGTH IS GOING TO PLAY A ROLE ON VELOCITY/ AIRSPEED TO THE MOTOR. velocity is going to have an effect on throttle response. the faster the air is moving the greater the throttle response.
it seems the V2 system uses a two size diameter pipe and length system to try to achieve the best results.
i will incoporate these ideas into mine and let you know shortly. realistically. for me, i kind of simplifies the process for me. the worst part was finfing the right size pipe and coupler at the throttle body....
stay tuned.........
ps. sorry for the wait again.....
married life now, job drama.... the usual...
