Did a search on ETS within all forums looking for information on the ETS subsystem. Found plenty of explanations ... that much is great. But my question is how to I turn it off permanently?

Now I live in the north, have all my life, and I find this system to be a pain in the butt ... I know that a few of you have commented that it has perhaps saved your life, but here the ice and snow is a way of life and having to remember to turn the system off is not working.

Also the thought of a system that can take control of engine timing and other mechanisms that the engineers deemed necessary to control wheel spin is bothering me, I would hate to see the "computer" foobar and turn this system on permanently ...

Has anyone ever attempted to either have this system removed or completely bypassed?

CountryBoy ... a little frozen at the moment!

Either that or take the switch apart and cut the wires...but the "ETS OFF" light will always be on.

Take out the bulb or let it burn out ;)

Are you sure that'd work Jay? I think the "switch" actually only sends a signal to the PCM whenever it's pressed and the PCM determines if it should turn the ETS system on or off. The "switch" doesn't have an "On" and "Off" position.

As I remember when you unplug the switch it cuts the ect off for good, but you get a light. "Trac Off" The switch is digital not analog.

Theres an on and off position, atleast on my 97...When its sticking out its off when its in its on.But you are right about telling the PCM to whether or not to turn the ETS system off, also the Trac off light comes on.

The 99+ have just a button that you push, it's not a switch. Proof is that if you push the button to turn it off and shut off the car it'll be on after you restart.

ooooooh,is it the one button on top of the radio? I haven't been in a 99+ GA so i was just assuming GM kept the setup the same for the system, light indicating on and off.

Question I got for you, why the hell would you want to get rid of it!?! I live in the north too. North as in snowy, pain in the ass temp changes, gotta love winter cause your stuck with it for 6-8 months, Edmonton, Alberta Canada. I honestly have no idea why the heck youd want ti off all the time. I know for me, I wont buy a car without it. Its a great help when accelerating and the abs works great with stopping errr... kinda slowing down ... on ice and snow. just kinda wondering why you'd want to be rid of such a great device. And yes.. it has saved me and my car a few times alone wiht the trac control, another coupel of times because of abs
