I was just wandering what everyones temp usually runs. Mine after I flushed the cooling system and put a 185 thermostat, runs cooler. I cant tell exactly what it is but it is between 220 and the 100 line, so i did some math and i think it is around 160.?I dont know, if anyone else does please let me know or what yours usually runs. thanks

Hypertech has a 160 Degree thermostat for the 2.5 Fieros. I'm not sure if they'd work on the Grand Am 2.5, but the Fierostore has them, as well as Autozone.com.

2.5's have different thermostat housings depending on what gm wanted to do that day. very frustrating. There is one that can be accessed easily by removing the filler cap, and the other has to be unbolted. Finding the gasket to go between the block and the easy style housing is impossible. Luckilly you dont need to take it off. A cooler thermostat would help, also check out the fan switch post in here as an alternative and cheaper way to keep cool.

With the "Easy to get to" thermostat..I'm wondering if thats the one Hypertech has. Also would the "hard to get to" thermostat work in the "easy's" place?
lol does that make any sense?

???? :???: J/K Mine is real easy to change, it is right on top next to the CAI. The guy just gave me the gasket, like 1.59 or something. My engine runs pretty cool, but a guy at an auto zone, told me that the 2.5, is ment to have the 195 stat, and that the engine will run rich untill it gets to that temp, and he said that you will use more gas obviously. I dont think mine runs that hot. Running rich will that make it run a little faster?

running rich will not make your car faster, only use more gas. The cooler the thermostat, the sooner the coolant flows again. Leaving less time for the coolant in the radiator to cool. Its a toss up. Unless your having overheating problems i wouldnt change it. If you got a gasket that means you had to unbolt the housing to take the thermostat out, not like the other design where you unscrew the cap and pull it out, thats the one where the gasket is impossible to get.
