Hi all I'm thinking of getting a front bumper from a salvage and cutting, bondo'ing and fiberglassing it to make my own handmade custom bumper does this sound like a good idea? has anyone done this before any pointers?

Not a good idea. Stock ga bumpers are soft, plyable urethane. Fiberglass is rigid. it won't hold 4 long.

yea i kind of agree, plus i think cutting some of the bumper away and making it custom would be weaking the strength of it and if you were to get in an accident the damage would prolly be more if you would just have it as it is.....Body kits are made purelly from fiberglass or urethane and are made to be strong or stronger then stock bumpers. My friend had messed up his body kit from hitting a pot hole and a small dog and he tried bondoing it and re-fiberglassing it,the stuff didn't stick and didn't hold up for its life, when those things get damaged you might as well buy a new one unless your an expert at re-doing it.

I plan on possibly getting a custom kit made for my car... we'll see.

ok I might just go ahead and have to make the entire thing by hand, the reason I wanted a stock one would be for a template but I think I will probably endup making an entire piece

That'd be the way to go at it! Although, if you were looking for an easy fit right off w/out alot of guesswork you could use your stock bumper to make a mold.
